Somehow I kind of understood what he was saying. In summary, Vancouver fans will always complain unless we win a cup? Every other scenario is a reason to complain?
- CanuckDon

any NHL player will tell you, that you can nit pick individual success stories in a season, but the end goal will always be a Stanley cup, and to a certain degree, anything less in a season is a "failure". Fans don't have the same standards as NHL players, and rightfully shouldn't, but again, our hopes and end goal, is a Stanley cup. I don't remember many fans ACTUALLY complaining about the team when we went to game 7 in 2011. The majority of the complaining has been nearly every year since, where in turn, I truthfully think fans have reason to complain.

I am not sure what SJ has anything to do with where he went with it.

Yup & no matter what our fanbase has not changed in nearly 50yrs of doing just that.
Endless complaints of all kinds its the management the coach the players the media etc etc.

Well our fans haven’t changed & remain the common denominator. It’s the minority that can think straight & see it for what it is. The cup runs cost us & here we sit today.

I think you are being dramatic (I don't mean that as an insult). in 2010/2011, the fanbase was praising the team, individual trophies were being claimed, the team was successful. I don't recall an over abundance of fan complaining. The complaining has come in the years since, which I will agree, fans have had a lot to complain about, and are justified to a certain degree.

Well, as a life-long fan, there have been endless reasons to complain about this team. The've come close a couple of times and there were some fun years surrounding those cup runs but there has been a lot to complain about.

Stetcher has always been the one I’ve hated the least I guess. I think he has better hockey sense than the other 2 but he’s so small and doesn’t have the elite skill needed to make up for it.

On a bad team, I can live with him as a bottom pairing dman.

Depends where you were. I was in town & then was out of town for the Finals. Fans were a mixed bag. Mostly they were excited but there was the fanbase that said we wouldn’t win with the Sedins. The apprehensive nature of these ppl allowed them the I TOLD YOU SO response. The bandwagoners come out of the woodwork then & disappear just as fast in these times.

As for when fans complain & get what they want it turns into Pederson for Neely/1st.

The ‘82 cup run many fans said we were lucky. Idk how a team lucks out to the Finals.

In ‘94 that was the best fun i’ve ever had & was about the only time fans didn’t go all fickle & stupid afterwards.

In todays internet/media driven times the wannabes & posers & selfie crowd are a pandemic. The simple fact our hockey talk shows can survive with the ppl & crap they purvey proves this out.

Remember the ‘72 Canada/Russia series?
Our fans booed. I was there working the game.

You are dating back as far as 82 and now talking about the USSR/canada series of 72. All of which isnt relevant. How did it go from SJs stacked defense to this? My point is, unless your team wins a cup, fans will always find something to complain about. I will never knock a canucks fan about complaining about something that has gone on since 2011/12. It doesnt make them a drama queen or a whiner, it makes them passionate about wanting to see their die hard team succees

Sure we all want the Cup & set high expectations but our track record as a fanbase is pretty pathetic.

We win the ‘72 Canada/Russia & display our support by booing on national tv but sure as hell loved the winning that was to follow.

We followed that up with the riot.

Not a very proud fanbase that I’m sadly a part of by association. It’s a game & that’s all it ever has been. That is lost on so many ppl. I’ve met many fans & most are not true fans but the diehards i can appreciate.

The team has essentially been a trash heap for 3/4 or 4/5 of its existence. That's going to make a lot of people sour.

You lost all credibility above. Not to resurface old wounds, but that riot crowd was made up of a bunch of juvenile delinquents, barely old enough to remember bure and probably young enough never to see linden play an nhl game. Secondly, remember when i said that a select few only would fall under either category of drama queen or pom pom waver, sorry man, but your getting awful close to being in both categories, something that these boards have never seen before lol. I honestly feel your making a mountain out of a mole hill and complaining for the sake of it

It has indeed.
Nighthawk was right about the '94 run, it was a heap of fun....until,well...
Anyway, currently Benning & Co. have given us plenty to b*tch about. I even made tear pies.

I would honestly say that you are a true pom pom waver, and your post above reaffirms that. Having said that, i will give you credit, as you are pretty persistent on where you lean and your views of positivity are pretty steady all the time. I might not agree with you on most things, but i give you props for remaining consistent

Im not going to argue your perception of a die hard fan vs mine. The fact that the canucks board has as many comments after each blog, with different people commenting, kind of proves your theory of diehards stick it out through thick and thin though eh?.

Not a perception i declare myself one.
Others can declare for themselves.
Posting doesn’t make anyone a diehard.
Makes them passionate maybe but a diehard is 100% behind their team.

You know who else are 100% behind their team, even when things are really bad? Pom pom wavers lol

You can be a die-hard passionate fan while still being able to criticize.

No poop. And I don't even know why people poop on the fanbase for the casuals and bandwagoners.

1) Every sports team has casual fans. In Vancouver its probably exacerbated by the fact a closet costs 2000 in rent and there are so many things besides a bad hockey team to spend money on. Its not even worth it for a lot of die hards to suffer through this mess when they can save their 500 bucks for tickets and make your car payments instead.

2) You want bandwagoners. Bandwagoners mean your team is good. I can't wait until the bandwagon is full again.
