That should be it, but you know this team will head to overtime 10-15 times and steal a couple wins from that

Not popular opinion I know but I think losing the Sedins will actually help us a touch.

See where it goes.

For all their faults, they still scored in their minutes. They still were able to run a PP. They still drew matchups off Horvat and Boeser at times.

I think it'll help more in the long term because its going to be more of a fight than sparring for a lot of the kids, but I don't think thats the kind of thing you'll really see for a year or two at least.

This team overacheived like hell last year through November. The were in a playoff spot. Everyone was scoring and Nilsson had like a 1 GAA and his Save% was up over .930.

I don't think they're going to get that this year.

73 point team last year. Lost a guaranteed 100points of offence. Brought back the same D, same goaltending. Replaced Dowd, Dorsett and Vanek with Beagle, Schaller and Roussell.

Basically outside of the defence becoming good and EP putting up godly numbers its all but a guarantee they smell like poop again.

But on the plus side they'll be a little more fun to watch, ideally.

I think the counter argument for 80 points is:

1) The Sedins sucked at 5v5 considering their usage so replacing their total impact shouldn't be difficult at 5v5, but the PP may suffer unless EP makes up for it.

2) Better injury luck (maybe they should re-hire the sleep doctor everyone made fun of lol)

3) EP

Side note: I'm a bit worried about Roussel, the guy plays a physical game and this concussion doesn't seem like a minor one who was the one UFA signing I didn't mind, even for the dollar amount.

I wonder how long it's gonna take him to get into game speed and if he's going to continue playing the same way or tone it down. If he's toning it down then the signing will be a bust.

I think our highest scoring player will be in the 55-60 point range.

I think Clayton Keller and Mitch Marner are going to have absolute monster seasons
80+ points for each player.

Markstom is capable of some good stretches to get the team to OT; but I have faith in the likes of Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat to score a few in the shootout this year. Winless in OT/SO for 2 years in a row would be quite the feat

They got easy minutes, but they still scored in those minutes. Just giving those minutes to others doesn't equal production. Horvat wasn't buried in his defensive zone for starts (~55% ozone). Neither was Boeser (over 70% ozone starts).

Virtanen/Sutter/Granlund/Eriksson ain't going to do poop with ozone starts. They're going to be a must to allow EP to play C but I don't think any combo of Gagner/Baertschi/Eriksson/Goldobin/Leipsic are going to push the needle.

What worries me more with Roussell is how people are like "oh he's tough. he'll replace dorsett and stick up for guys" where its more likely he needs someone to fight his battle after he sticks someone.

hard to imagine this team improving by 5 points when they already have shown they will struggle to score all year, have the same d and goalies (possibly the worst goalie tandem in hockey, as I've pointed out several times)

nice. They all deserved a little longer of a look. those three are likely our first call ups assuming Gaunce clears.

I think it will be our rock bottom year. I honestly think we will finish at around the same number 70-75 point range. Easily could slide if we get a lot of injuries, much more interesting season! See how they band together or sink like a stone.

Granlund and Archibald as extras is the right move as well.

It's stupid, do you want to see the Jets rock a thrashers jersey, or the coyotes rock a jets jersey this year.

Excluding the 1970's, this year will be one of the worst seasons in franchise history. Just one of many.

It's not just about the points they scored though, they were terrible defensively despite the easy minutes, they bled goals against.

I honestly don't think guys like Gagner, EP, Eriksson, etc would do much worse, even if they put up less points, they'd have to be at least a little better defensively.

Agreed about Roussel, he's an agitator, not a guy who fights for teammates lol. But I miss being hated and he's a decent bottom 6 player so I wanted him
