in all seriousness, it wouldn't hurt to claim him and waive Nilsson. |

I agree. Nilsson just can't compete consistently at the NHL level. |

I still don’t see many freakouts in here. Just some disappointment in the lack of fight for spots and some troll posts that people keep taking the bait on(Gaunce, etc).
I feel like it’s really the pro-Benning crowd who’s more on edge and are just looking for freakouts to make fun of. |

yep. You're a whiner if you make any sort of criticism. You are "freaking out" if you go against the grain in any sort of matter. |

absolutely nothing to lose. We have the $, our goaltending sucks, Sparks is a proven AHL goalie, who hasn't been able to get a shot in the NHL. Wouldn't make a ton of sense to not do it. |

The only potential downside I can see is Demko and his feelings. |

Hurt leaf feelings >Demko feelings
We should totally do it, even if it means waiving gaunce to carry 3 goalies it'd be worth it. |

Isnt the point to let let the offensive prospects play in offensive positions while sheltering them with experience?
Isnt that what everyone has been complaining about for the last 5 years?
Didnt matter if they signed Spezza or Beagle, they were still going to finish in the bottom 3!
Just sit back and enjoy the rebuild! They are going to be adding some elite pieces in the next 2 drafts and hopefully management doesnt mismanage them the way Edmonton did. I think by adding the Beagles and Rousel's that they are already ahead of that.
I just wish they had added some better defensemen over the summer - (frank)! - chompsey
I don't want some huge debate, and I'm not disagreeing with you, but... what if this idea of sheltering the young players has the exact opposite effect. To me, this puts all the pressure to score on rookies and guys fighting for a spot to be a first year full time player. The bottom of the lineup won't be expected to score, and sure, they will take most of the defensive zone draws, but in 41 road games the other team gets the last change, and Gudbranson ices the puck like nobody else in the league can.
Anyway, here's to hoping the veteran guys have career years, the team stays competitive even if they don't win and Pettersson and Boeser take a step forward. |

have demko's feelings recovered from the team drafting dipietro? picking up another goalie could be devastating! |

I think it needs to be looked at less of a rookie/veteran thing, and more so that Green puts them in situations to succeed (According to player strengths). Henrik and Daniel didn't get priority offensive faceoffs because they were veterans, it was because they are offensive minded forwards with poor defensive strengths. I think Green should play his players to their strength (Boeser/Pettersson as offensive guys) (Sutter/Beagle as defensive guys). Learning to play at all ends of the ice should be mandatory for all players playing in the NHL (Gudbranson is going to ice the puck 10x a night on the road, and you're right, offensive players will need to take defensive draws), but I think it should be more or less giving players opportunities to work their trade. |

We can "what if" all day long but management felt this was the best way to do it and I dont necessarily disagree with them.
What i do disagree with is the fact that it took them so long to accept to come to this point. Its a much bigger hole to climb out of now.
Also:
Nylander was my pick over Virtanen
Tkachuk over Juolevi
Imagine:
Tkachuk Pettersson Boeser
Baertschi Horvat Nylander
Eriksson Sutter Goldobin
Rousell Beagle Schaller
Defense group wouldnt be any different that it is now but that looks like a more balanced forward group...... |

This is going to get a bunch of eye rolling type responses over feelings and whatnot, but unless Benning can find an AHL team willing to play Nilsson on loan, I can't see them making a claim. I definitely think they should, but I do think the organization respects Bachman too much to demote/move him from Utica |

I don't think it would be difficult to find another AHL home for Nilsson; but I question Benning's motivation to do it despite what is obvious to the rest of us here |

My take is that the team has always been full of scraps since the beginning. Our senior management always hires ex Canuck scraps to run the club. Executive scrubs are attracted to player scraps as they can relate. It’s a vicious scrap cycle that won’t end until we get a new owner that will hire scrapless people that haven’t played for this scrap organization. I hope this makes sense |
