Incorrect. His salary will be reduced by approximately 1/3 from $3.25M to $2.25M.
The article Mr. Shackles wrote and that you are commenting on covered that. - HoweHatrick

They are acquiring picks and prospects. This is a comprehensive rebuild. - spatso
Must be impossible to type this with a straight face. There is nothing comprehensive about this debacle. The return for Karlsson says it all.

The article specified that his cap hit would be reduced, not his actual salary .
Cap friendly states that his minors salary will remain 3.25 for the duration of his contract. |

Incorrect, his Salary is 3.25m regardless,

They save cap not real money, almost every pro contract is structured like this. pro and minor salaries are the same. It is done so you cant have teams putting 1 way contracts into the minors to save salary.
If you want the cap relief you have to pay them their full salary. Thats why teams like Ottawa would hardly put NHL 1 way contracts into the minors, they dont save anything, they actually have to pay more actual dollars when doing this |

Zack Smith clears... https://mobile.twitter.co...s/1044980510903099392?p=p - VeryModernMan
I doubt he'll be sent down. this was probably done to see if they could get his salary off the books for nothing if someone claimed him, but he still has some value to the team. I think he'll 100% be in Ottawa to start the year. |

I think hes traded now. for a different but worse cap hit contract. Something with lesser term but maybe more of cap hit but less salary over the length of his contract

if the cant move home, then he probably stays. Doesnt make sense to pay him 3+ mil to play for Belleville and also pay someone else to take his spot with the Sens |

So, if another team trades for him they'd keep in on their AHL affiliate? |

Haha could you imagine if the Sens could save real dollars by sending one way contacts to the AHL? the Ott's transaction list would be maxed out each day with guys going up and down. Have to assume that they trade Smith at some point for a worse contract, that pays fewer actual dollars.
At this point I am starting to get worried that the Sens will start using assets to trade for dead contracts like Hossa and Clarkson, rather than the other way around.. |
