blah, blah, blah .... "guidelines" "comprehensive rebuilds" ... These stupid fvcks should have had "guidelines" for a lottery protected pick. So this year is a write-off, then we have another 4-5 years of a rebuild? Not to mention the toxic environment the whole organization is. - Brandon
A start is a start.
I enjoyed the exhibition game against Montreal the other night more than any of the games played after Christmas last year.
Sens will get more picks and prospects as season evolves.
Hitting bottom is a process. The darker it seems, the closer you are to seeing the light. Don't be discouraged. Ottawa has always been a great hockey town and the small victories of next year will be fully celebrated.

the point of showing that is that they really do not have a long term plan and are just winging this thing now
So this grand scheme of we had this planned all along since February...they have no clue what they are building yet but are just going to try something |

i get the point of cost cutting but stripping the roster down and having an empty building is a ploy to lure prospective buyers? as opposed to a winning team with playoff revenue and sell outs?
spatso is just reaching and spewing his usual nonsensical drivel. - systemtool
A winning roster isn't really an option right now. |

after selling everything off for nothing...no it isnt.
my point was more to the fact the sens arent in this mess because theyre trying to sell the team like spatso is trying to suggest. |

I don't get how you can be so sure that Melnyk has been trying to sell. As far as I know, he's never said anything indicating a desire or willingness to sell the team. Furthermore, Travis Yost did some pretty good investigating a few years ago that showed the Senators were one of only a few of Melnyk's business holdings that actually makes money. I think you're really setting yourself up for a massive disappointment. - Jeffmt
The Sens have a great TV contract. The shared NHL revenue is very strong. If the Sens operate as a minimum cap team during the rebuild they don't need spectacular attendance to be profitable.
But, the real value of the Sens is in the LeBretton development. Melnyk's development partners own all of LeBretton, plus the Bayview station lands plus the Zibi project. The scope of these projects are at the core of Ottawa redevelopment over the next 30 years. It is also at the heart of the new LRT system.
Melnyk has lucked out. This is not just a home run, it is a grand slam. Over $10b in projected development and the Sens are the crown jewell in the entire redevelopment strategy. This is not about hockey. It is about finalizing contracts, locking in finances and beginning construction.

jesus guy, thats just one of those stupid hockey fandom wild internet rumours that always happens with a big name player leaves.
Oh he was traded, he was sleeping with that guys wife, or he didnt like that guy, etc etc.
Mark stones wife was tweeting support for the Karlssons in the Hoffman bullying scandal, I would highly doubt there was bad blood b/w them the the Karlssons - DDM-Coga
Lol.....I’m actually shocked we haven’t heard a “player X was sleeping with karlsson’s wife and that’s why he wanted out” rumour. |

Melnyk (the Sens) is the nominal bidder in the LeBretton redevelopment. They hold the winning bid (already decided). They are down to a few progress and financial dates that they have to meet.
Nobody is going to tinker with this bid or ownership structure until the t's are crossed and the i's are dotted.
I have not said the Sens are trying to sell the team. I believe that they are already sold through a recapitalization and we will quietly see Melnyk phase out of the scene once the LeBretton contract is finally signed. |

From the Ottawa Citizen on the upcoming November meeting with the NCC. Talks are far too advanced for Melnyk to be able to step away from his partners. Important to note it is Melnyk's development partners that have the money.
The development, which is backstopped by Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk and the Trinity group, includes a new arena, mixed residential buildings and other amenities. The prime piece of downtown real estate is owned by the federal government and managed by the NCC, which will have have the RendezVous LeBreton project on the agenda of its next board meeting.
“The meeting in November will be an important one for the RendezVous LeBreton project as we work through this month with the promoters to answer all the questions necessary for the board to make some key decisions for the winter and spring of 2019,” Kristmanson said.
“So far, all of our teams are meeting all of the milestone objectives,” Kristmanson told reporters after Tuesday’s meeting of the NCC board of directors. “They have a very strong vision and everybody is trying to support it.”
Among the pressing issues the commission faces are negotiations with the Algonquin First Nation upon whose traditional territory the development will be built as well as work required to decontaminate the once heavily industrialized area.
The NCC chose the RendezVous LeBreton team in April 2016 and continues to work on finalizing a master development agreement.
“All of these things are complex in and among themselves to keep the development on track, so November is an important milestone for many of these decisions,” Kristmanson said.

Whoever hasn't figured it out by now......Melynk is getting rid of ALL of his long term obligations. No one would take Bobby Ryan or else he'd be gone by ...last season.
I have no problem with a rebuild but don't act like your like going to build a contender. Build a team that can sustain a team with star players from their draft year to the end of their career. Karlsson SHOULD have been here for his whole life. He was the heartbeat, the face of the franchise, and a GREAT dude.
He wanted to win with a contending team, not get the puck over to guys like Oduya or Boro |

Yes, I think you are right. The following is a top recommendation in getting a privately owned business ready for sale (recapitalization):
"You don’t need to wait for a transaction to clean up the balance sheet and improve ef ciencies. Look for opportunities to remove non-business assets (does the business really need that boat or condo?) and monetize redundant or under-used assets ahead of a transaction. Focus on spending and expense control opportunities." |

It'll be pretty funny if the Sens go all Major League this year and win the Eastern Conference.

All of which is great for the citizens of the city of Ottawa, but none of that guarantees a Cup.
Fans want Cups, not high speed rail infrastructure, sports bars, condos, and office towers.
I just hope the Sens can get back on track. As the Bolts' sister expansion team, it sucks to see a team that came so close has fallen so far.
