The Leafs D is good enough. they need to not get any important piece suspended in the playoffs and have Andersen not provide .896 save %. Their D is underrated. Rielly is fast becoming a stud.

Their forwards will roll over the opposition like a passed-out Cosby date.

Age is an issue because he has no future with the team. At least Pickard would be serviceable for many more seasons.
- Unholy_Goalie

Except Pickard isn't serviceable.

He's a stiff.

But Holtby was rested, which is why he underperformed his career averages. Wait...

We care about stanley cups not how many years an average backup can last.
Sparks is "young". Should I care?

False. Better career numbers than McElhinney. As a starter he wasn't good, as a back-up he was fine.

The Caps had a -2.9 shot differential, the Leafs were -1.7

So the key is to have a worse shot differential

- senstroll

Not in the playoffs they didn't.

The Caps had their best players playing their best. That's all we need.

If Matthews and or JT play anywhere like Kuznetsov did we are golden.

Here's an interesting topic of conversation I saw on twitter. It's a little much but a fun discussion none the less.

Assuming no major injuries the Leafs lineup should (use this term lightly) look like this come trade deadline time:

Marleau - Matthews - Nylander
Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Ennis/Levio - Kadri - Brown
Johnsson - Lindholm - Kapanen

Reilly - Hainsey
Gardiner - Zaitsev
Dermott - Carrick/Ozzie

Anderssen
Mac/Sparks

The question then is.. Who do the Leafs target at the trade deadline? Possibly a "Hockey Trade", but more likely to be a pending UFA/rental for a playoff run. any thoughts?

- steve362

The target should be anyone that can help on defense.

And if Andersen is better rested (having a better back-up who can play 25-30 games) you'll get better results from him in the playoffs.

I agree but I am not sure Babcock has that strategy. He kept playing Andersen so much February-on when they had clinched 3rd place.

Good thing they traded him though.
- Unholy_Goalie

Our best pitcher traded for peanuts for our all star traded for absolutely nothing.
Jays management is doing outstanding.

I heard john farrell might be candidate to replace gibbons.

Jesus shapiro. What a tool.

McElhinney has only ever been a back-up and his career SV% is .909.

.932 and .922 in Colorado (bad teams) as a back-up for Pickard.

Across the board, all their best players in the past 3 years have been moved or left for (frank) all.

In general I never want to see a Leaf team that is good have their goalie #1 in starts, shots against and minutes. Never a good idea.

I'm guessing that Babs is going to mix those lines up - not enough grit (a guy to get Nylander and Matthews the puck) on the 1st line and not enough scoring support for Kadri.
