there's no way that anyone can legitimately give Sparks the backup job behind Andersen after that steaming pile.
I think they should move McBackup if possible for a mid-round pick, and run with Pickard as the backup. Pickard has more NHL time that Sparks, who confidence must be messed up right now, but that said clearly you don't throw away Sparks as of yet based on age and his record the past couple of seasons in the AHL. - BorjeFan4Ever
Sparx will have to clear waivers.
He's gone.
You don't win an NHL job by having a sv% in the low .800s.
He's been terrible.
MakeaSavey earned the job.
Let's move on. |

its doubtful whether the Leafs and Sabres would combine for a deal... but Ristolainen needs a change of scene BADLY, the guy is a tire fire.
he gets himself twisted in knots trying to be tough guy... and turns the puck over with alarming regularity.
just for arguments sake - what would the Leafs have to offer for him? - BorjeFan4Ever
I don't know what Buffalo needs.. If I had to guess(not that I would do this deal), I would think Sparks, Dermott and a draft pick |

I would hold on to sparks and try and sneak Piccard through waivers. Some teams if interested in a goalie from the leafs may hold off on him and wait for sparks. Then if he clears try and trade sparks for whatever they can get. |

Or a team could claim Pickard, then claim Sparks, drop Pickard through Waivers and not give anything in return. |

Sparks has been bad - particularly last night. I just believe you don't throw away a guy that quickly...
and the question remains whether its wise to assume that McBackUp will have the same kind of statistical year this year... and whether he can play an additional 7-10 games to lighten the load on Andersen a bit. |

There's no guarantee you're getting sparks though. Other teams could claim him first. Might be worth giving up a late pick. |

Isn't there some kind of rule about claiming a player and then waivering them again? |

I'm not even sure Sparks would get picked through waivers.
If anything, I think Pickard is the superior backup goaltender of the two. |

Pickard still has an outside chance to make the cut and the Leafs would be fools to pass on him if he continues to put up a solid performance this preseason. |

So far i have read that he wont clear waivers and is gone and nobody would want him because of his crappy preseason.
I predict the Leafs want him |

I like Pickard more than sparks but that doesn't seem to be the consensus. Im not sure but I think once you make a waiver claim you get bumped down the list for your next claim. |

There's worse guys out there to round out a teams bottom 6.
His contract is ugly, but it's not like Ottawa is tight against the cap. Maybe they're really going for a younger team, and Melnyk really wants his 10 guys up here. |
