Giving him $8 million a year would make him one of the top 25 paid players in the NHL.
So I need you to take a moment, Mr. Flyers Fan, before you answer the following question:
Do you really think that Nylander deserves to be one of the top 25 paid players in the NHL?
Warning: Leafs fans everywhere will be making note of your answer, and possibly throwing it in your face before every Leafs-Flyers game this year. - Atomic Wedgie
Also, in two years he'd probably be outside of the top 35, and every year after there would be more contracts surpassing |

This may come as big shock to you, but Nylander should not be compared to McDavid.
Ever. - Atomic Wedgie

Looks like he might could turn it around. Those seasons didn't come from nowhere. Time will tell, as in if he gets the icetime. If he gets buried on the 4th line all season could be another ~20 point season - TheMussel
All very true. He needs to be in the top-9. And he is NOT a center |

McDavid set the market for once in a generation players.
Do you really think that McDavid's salary has a positive effect on Rich Clune's next salary negotiations? |

He wants a good deal for the team
Sure he can get an average contract and sign today...but then he has to do the same for Matthews and Marner.
He’s playing hardball will Nylander so he can get The others on cheaper contracts. - Santo_44
Sure, it makes sense for the Leafs to do so.
Just as it makes sense for Nylander to want as much as possible.
Thus, the current situation. |

Like Salming wanting to talk to him.
Think the agent and his dad are really the ones keeping him out demanding this big overpayment.
At some point you have to wonder if Dubas doesnt start contemplating a trade, especially if he starts feeling this could be a pattern with him. Short term then back to this again?! - Roadrunner75
Didn't his father have a history of this kind of thing? |

It's clear Nylander wants money, there were talks if he goes all season without signing a deal which is just hilarious to me. He would not get paid which is clearly what he wants, and it'll only hurt his future contract. I like Nylander but man he is definitely losing some respect. |

thats more of a UFA thing.
I think most ideal would be Willie signing the same deal as his buddy Ehlers 7 years x 6MM.
Ehlers had a 38 and 64 point season under his belt but he signed his extension at the start of last season and is just kicking in now. He'd probably get a boost with two 60 point seasons now though.
Thats best case scenario for the team |

The franking moon.
And the Leafs will give it to him.
Nylander is simply not the same guy as him.
Put another way:
If the Leafs lose Matthews (offer sheet, hold-out that results in forcing a trade) it will set this franchise back another 10 years (something we are all too familiar with). It will be a black mark that we will never live down. Other fans will gleefully talk about the Matthews curse.
If the same thing happens for Nylander, we will debate whether or not we got enough coming back.
See the difference? |

We are all going to start to move on from Nylander when this team dominates without him. He can bring back a good young top 4 D. |

That's a lot of questions but I'll answer as best as I can. First of all, Kudos to you for even knowing that there IS a difference!!
Miss USA is mostly about looks. There are three phases of competition all weighted equally - evening gown, swimsuit and interview.
Miss America is more about the total package. There are five phases of competition - Talent at 35%, Interview at 25%, Evening Gown at 20%, Swimsuit at 15% and On Stage Question at 5%.
There are three things that really make the Miss America system different...there is a talent portion, the interview is much more intense and, most importantly, it provides millions of dollars in scholarships not only to the winners, but runner ups, preliminary winners, etc. every year.
Neither system is necessarily "better" than the other. They are just different. There are girls that are successful only in one system, but there are many that crossover and are successful in both.
Hope this explains it
