Oz is a righty with size. Not saying he deserves it more, but I think that's what babs wants.

I agree, I think Oz will probably make the club, the only real competiion will likely be for the seventh spot. Even though Carrick is not a Bab favorite - he's got to have an edge for the 7th spot. 8th spot would be Holl, Borgman or Rosen.

Although it's early, I can't see any real improvement in Carrick's game, so I think he's doomed as a Leaf. Rosen looked great...and 3 cheers for Sandin, cuz he looks like a player - too little yet, but in a couple years, I think he'll step right in as an impact player. Holl - like him. Oz...too early for me to make a call. Borgman - meh...has some jam, but, not sure about him. Oh and Lily needs another year.

Connor Carrick won competition at camp as the fittest Leaf. We know there are some pretty good athletes at camp. He'll be there this year, has some grit, and will make it. Sandin looks really good - but there is no urgency yet. The defence will automatically improve by the puck being in the offensive zone 80% of the time.

btw : Connor Carrick is a beast - if a dirty little punk like Domi tries poop with one of our scorers - somebody gonna get hurt

Yeah, I saw these exact vids of Carrick last year...maybe he can focus on cross fit competitions. As far as tough - in the "Beat up Domi, tough"...yeah, no...he ain't that guy.
I agree full heartedly with your assessment of the overall success of the Leafs D...those top 12 guys are gonna' make their job easier. Look where Tavares was on many occasions last night. A couple times, Leaf wingers breaking out before full possession - JT back there attending to his defensive responsibility. That's a leader. Yummy.

We'll see on Carrick, he's got some sandpaper. Love the way the Leaf train keeps moving as well. There's four lines loaded with talent, the Marlies are stacked, and no rush to bring our last two first rounders up, even though they look pretty good - then top it off with drafting the youngest kid in the draft (looks like he's 12 or 13) in the third round. He might be a top scorer in junior this year. Has really looked good so far.

Jake and Morgan combine for 127 points this season...the highest scoring D tandem in the league, beating out EK65 and Burns by 1 point...and the dynamic Preds duo by a whopping 17 points.

I know it sounds crazy, but I think a swap for Panarin is the leafs best play. It puts you in a hell of a position to win the cup. And the thought of Tavares, Panarin, and Marner on the same line? Best line in the history of hockey! You may even be able to keep him long term with some cap management heroics. Worth the risk in my opinion to ice one of the best teams since the 80s Oilers.

Probably overly exuberant...there have been some awfully good lines in the long history of hockey...

sure...or Gilles, Trottier, Bossy (Islanders dynasty)...or the French Connection (Robert, Perrault, Martin) for the Sabres...lots.

Panarin, Tavares, Marner might be very good, just not in the sense of "greatest of all time"

All hypothetical anyway.

fwiw, Leafs have a good team this year. Once the backend is strengthened, they will be a powerhouse.

There should be more of a buzz around Sandin and Liljegren..

Those two look like a future top 4 pairing..

They have all the skill in the world, and skate like the wind... The couple high risk passes they made or failed to make is hardly something to be concerned about.

they looked good vs ahl/echl level players. hard to know how good they'll be as nhlers yet but the skill appears to be there

(frank) Panarin, (frank) trading Nylander. Under control to age 27, he's 22 and if he gets a bridge deal - he leaves money on the table. His loss.

$7m x 6 now (plus mostly up front money!)
$8.5m x 6 = $93 m to age 34

Bridge 1 $4.5m x 2
Bridge 2 $5m x 2 (Still not a UFA)
$8.5m x 8 = $87m to age 34

Skating and skill is far more important than anything else.

Liljegren is a thick body, and looks a lot like Hedman. Sandin is just silky smooth.

They have some positioning to work on, and Sandin especially needs to consider his options more before making a play.. But ill bet you Dubas is ecstatic about those players.

Agree, plus , the way things are being done, doesn't appear to be part of the plan to trade draft picks. Add, improve, repeat. Next draft, I want to see a camera on the Ottawa table as the Avs select Hughes.

As I mentioned early last night, Sandin is a headsy player...smarts goes a long way in this league.

I don’t think so, Hyman’s just as fast or close but has more weight for the board game.

JMO

How important is retreving pucks when you can't finish and keep missing easy goals?
Hyman lacks the talent for a top 6 role on a team as deep as this.

From what I've seen of SDA - which is very little, he's another example of an intelligent player...kids got a hockey head on his shoulders. Leafs drafting some skill and smarts - cuz those are the easiest kids to work with. Babs is lazy.

Yes...not sure about the Avs "franchise". Lightning will offer the Avs a sick return for that draft pick...just for the chance.

Hes got Tavares and Marner to finish

Scored more goals 5v5 then Nylander last year.

We have 3 pretty evenly talented lines, IMO he should be on 1 of them.
