I think people (media especially) put to much stock into preseason play. I agree with all above except for maybe giving up early on leipsic and goldobin. They have shown flashes of being good players for us imo. As far as the rest u listed.. trade and waive

It is not giving up on them. It is there are only so many roster spots and so far neither has stepped up to claim it.

This is what I have so far

Chris Tanev had another strong game, finishing with a 70.37 CF%. Tonight I found not only his poise, but his assertiveness with the puck got the team out of many high danger situations. The defensive wizard seems to be finding his stride early this year.

After a bit of a shaky start, Derrick Pouliot finished with a strong game paired primarily with Tanev. He led the team with a controlled exit rate of 55%. Additionally, he was aggressive in the neutral zone, breaking up three plays, which helped him to a nearly 60% share of shots while on the ice.

Goldobin had a bit of quiet game during his 16:40 on the ice. I wouldn’t go as far to say he had a bad game, but fair or not, he’s going to have to contribute more offensively to stay in Travis Greens lineup. His five primary shot contributions while starting on a line with Pettersson just simply isn’t going to be enough.

A quick note, with Pettersson around, I am no longer worried about zone entries being a problem on the power-play.

Tyler Motte continues to impress and is making it incredibly difficult to do anything but keep him on the team to start the season. He’s been an effective three zone player during the preseason and is driving any line he’s been put on. He’s seemingly always in the right position in the neutral zone and is causing a ton of turnovers. His speed is generating controlled entries and he’s show an ability to distribute, creating scoring chances. At this point, I think he’s played himself onto the team.

If talking about bubble players who have potentially claimed spots who didnt play last year, i would say the only two that stand out are pettersson and motte. Motte has been very good imo

Everyone is agreeing Motte so far has earned a spot. Let's hope waivers really don't matter?

I honestly do think we will all be disappointed if we think benning wont use that 1 game left in mottes contract to send him to utica without waivers to start the season. Just a feeling benning would rather save goldobin/leipsic at the expense of sending motte to utica without penalty/waivers

Every game I've watched I have pulled things out of there I liked. Bo has had a very good start and so has EP.

Motte has impressed and if I was Benning I would say screw waivers. I would give him a shot in top 6 in preseason and see what he does

Brocks timing will come it needs more work and Sven has had a good start

Edler and Tanev are playing decent .

I don't care what happens to Gaunce Gagner Granlund Goldobin or Leipsic.

- VANTEL

I see good and bad things about the games.

Motte has been hard on the forecheck and finishing hits but he has to produce points and help his line.

You know what you are going to get out of Edler and Tanev, it's the rest of them that it is very up in the air.

I have seen nothing out of Gagner this pre season other then I like him better in the slot then Baertschi on the PP.

Granlund causes turnovers every game. Can see why TG likes him in the shutdown role.

Well Jim has time to figure things out . With Luis injury (wink wink ) he has time to see what Leipsic Motte and Goldobin bring .

I don't see Goldobin or Leipsic on the team this time next year they will be replaced by Hughes

Haha thought you didnt want hughes and wanted cozens

Either way, even after benning decides on the motte situation, or the roster for that matter, team is still going to have major ups and downs this season

It doesn't matter what I want

I want a winger now that Pettersson is showing he can handle center duties.

Let's just put a package of depth together for Anisimov and he can play LW with Pettersson or center if Pettersson struggles.

Gagner, Leipsic, Pouloit for Anisimov, 4th round pick

Hard to believe that if EP pans out as a number 1 center, we will look as good down the middle as we did when henrik and kesler were in their prime.

1) it's gonna be a long season, predicting 69 points now...

2) Pettersson is a fantastic player, a man amongst boys...

3) once Boeser is reunited with Horvat & Baertschi he'll shake off the rust...

4) what the (frank) is Sam Gagner still doing in the NHL, he's terrible...

5) trade Sutter while he has value, keep Gaudette up...

Think of his value if you keep him playing net front on the PP. That's a 1st and a 3rd at the TDL.

Sounds as if they are still trying to win and think they have enough too. Van should try and help them win. Increase their odds.

Yeah The team needs him this year . I know Lefty hates him but he will shelter the guys like EP and Gaudette . I think a Sutter trade is coming as soon as Gaudette is ready

If they want Pettersson and Boeser shooting, somebody is going to need to screen. He's probably the best at that on the team right now. No, Horvat is not better at screening then Sutter

True, motte had worked his way into call up territory but I would want to lose goldobin or leipsic to waivers for the past that motte could maintain this pace.

Gaudette didn't really impress last night, but he didn't disappoint either, if you can find a good trade for Sutter I'd move him, otherwise, I'd hang onto him and send Gaudette down.

They'll put Horvat in 100% guaranteed with Boeser and Pettersson, they'll stack the first unit as the don't really have a decent second option.

53-40-6 looked really good on the PP so far in terms of possession. It's pretty clear Pettersson will QB the PP from the halfwall as he's already the most skilled player in the entire organization.
