Would have been better for Domi if he had kept his gloves on. Not a good look to bare-hand a guy in the face who clearly doesn't want to fight.

Ekblad has concussion issues so I get it, but the optics for him are bad as well

This would have never happened under Pacioretty's leadership. Probably like trying to herd house cats in the CH room now

Kadri eh?

Is this the same Kadri that is the 3rd line center on the Leafs who has back to back 32 goal seasons? All of the Habs centers combined didn't have 32 goals last season.

- bluestar

What does goal scoring have to do with Kadri being a borderline dirty player? At least he can count though.

Difference here is that Ulf totally deserved it.

Also, pretty sure Leafs fans thought that was awesome.

I have to say, I kinda wished Max saved that for Kadri or Marchand.

- stinger67

The difference is time, and as time passes, people change and learn new things. So something that was acceptable 20 years ago isn't always going to be acceptable now. Obviously there is some bias here but I think knowing what we know now about head injuries etc., I think any educated person would agree bare handed sucker punches should be out of the game.

I can honestly say that I thought Kadri's hit to Wingels' head in the playoffs last year was stupid and he deserved to be suspended, much like Domi's play last night. On top of that, much like Kadri, the team needs Domi to be ready and he's put the team at risk in favour of one selfish play.

Personally I think the issue is they seem to use preseason games as if they are real meaningful games. I think preseason games should be automatic part of the suspension. and the the amount of game ban should be regular season games.
- poisondhearts37

I'd be fine with letting them play in the preseason and then the suspension starts in the regular season. The NFL allows suspended players to play in the preseason, or at least they used to.

NHL preseason is useless for guys that will 100% make the team. They barely play as it is, and that's in games they're actually even dressed.

Thats just dumb... Steve Moore did too right? Donald Brashear did as well...
Ulf as a Richard but come on.

- geta02it

I was kidding. I said earlier that what Max did was stupid and that he deserved to be suspended.

I don't blame him, he wanted the number, but it was taken, so he used his draft year until 9 was available.

Pretty much.

What's funny is that when Emelin was here all we heard is "if he can't fight he needs to stop throwing big hits"

So following that logic, with Ekblad's concussion history, maybe he should lay down the stick-work and stop hiding behind refs if he doesn't want to answer for it.

Or is that irrelevant because Ekblad isn't wearing a Habs jersey?

- stinger67

I see the point you're making that pretty much everyone around the league hates on Montreal and throws logic out the door to do it...

But it also brings up the point that we should not expect Ekblad to drop the gloves if he doesn't want to. The hacking is one thing and the refs dropped the ball there. But if Ekblad doesn't want to fight, he shouldn't have to fight. Habs fans should all agree on that because when Emelin was here we all backed him up saying how he had to have surgery on his face in the past and should not be forced to fight.

Thought the same thing. Keep the glove on and all you get is a roughing call, and we're not in the situation we're in.

Didn't they try some bullpoop like he didn't mean to make a throat slashing gesture, even though it's clear he's saying "you're (frank)ing dead!"?

In real life, a dead threat could get you up to 18 months in prison

So, you have your own piece of poop to worry about.

I think it was something like $30 off a new one.

Edit: $49 kind of an odd number, but probably the most they could offer without taking a bath.

Threats on the ice are nothing, common place. Sure the odd time it may amount to something, but slamming your body into someone elses into the boards would get you charged with assault in real life too.

Well, If you're being that sensitive and "realistic", a sucker punch would get you more and could potentially kill someone.

I am in the corner that Domi is in the wrong on this, Really, really? Trying to paint ekblad as the bad guy here? Going to be a long season for this blogger if he can't grasp the fact that the "stick work" is in the game to stay! And "SHOCKER" your guys do it also!

Is anyone surprised ? His father sucker punched Rob Neidermayer and Ulf Samuellson and seriously injured both.
