Plus he was living in Detroit at the time and jumped at the opportunity to live in a good city. No wonder Buffalo was pissed, they're probably the only city in North America that's actually worse than Detroit.

Yeah I never actually got that story about him going to Buffalo. So Shanahan decided at the last minute, oh I should probably contact Mike rather than hiring Barry Mc(frank)face to be our coach? Despite the fact everything was in place 6 months before Mike was hired.

That whole thing was wrapped up a year before he officially signed with the Leafs.

Yeah, it was a last minute decision with a whole 30 second negotiation session. That was the minute that doomed Buffalo to their current dismal situation.

You realize Babcock just totally turned the Leafs around in two years right?
- Zezel

Like Lou, credit where it's due, but look how Dubas took away Komorov, Martin and Polak. Writing is on the wall.

Maybe also because they were all in decline? Babcock didn't play Martin for half a year.

It’s because he played with Matthews.

Played well

He has the tool kit to be a successful player and hopefully this first pre season game is a sign for things to come

Tied with Tavares for the pre season ticket Richard race

The Tampa Bay Lightning made a rare move last week when they placed defenceman Jake Dotchin on waivers to terminate his contract after a material breach.
I know that there have been reports out there that suggested his body fat was as high as 25 per cent. I don't know if those numbers are accurate," McKenzie told First Up on TSN 1050 Toronto. "What I can tell you, and what I do believe is accurate, is that he was a good 30 to 35 pounds above his playing weight.

Observations from last 2 games:

1. Ottawa really sucks. Not only do the regulars suck, their prospect pool looks pathetic.

2. Our organizational depth is strong.

3. Sandin looked good last night. Lillybust not as strong.

4. Ohziganov looks like a good find.

5. Ennis has the skill which has never been in doubt.

6. Matthews is a beast. Could approach 50 goals if he stays healthy.

7. Let Willie sit for a while and show him who's boss...

Like father like son

But seriously, such a pathetic league. Ekblad needs to defend himself and be ready. When a guy starts punching you with his gloves on, put your hands up and get ready to go.

The heart of Detroit, downtown, near the ballpark, arena, etc. is really quite good. Had a blast down there in the spring watching Raptors/Pistons with friends.

Babcock is the Blackberry of NHL coaches.

It worked very well 5 years ago.

He has a history of concussion issues, and you want him to start getting punched in the head?

Either way, a sucker punch is more of a female dog move, IMO

Honestly yes. And maybe he ends up bouncing back and being too good for the 4th line but then he'll have to stay there and make the 4th line better because there's no room.

Anybody that believes that the Matthews line is just fine without Nylander is a fool because Nylander puts it over the top. Settling for less than Nylander is settling for mediocrity.

Trade Nylander, sign Brouwer to play with Matthews.

He can always move up to fill in for injuries or whatever, giving the kids a chance to get some NHL experience.

Ottawa looks soooo bad. And they don't have their 1st rounder AND the guy they gave it up for is UFA and will likely be traded at the deadline.

AND with that horrible attendance they will be slashing their budget everywhere. Their scouting department will be reduced to one guy in a closet with a VHS tape of Euro hockey.
