Guy at work yesterday says leafs don't make the playoffs this year.

Best thing about the game was that there were no stupid jersey tucked/visor tilted/ face off violation penalties called.

Won the game and nobody got hurt. Good start. Nice to see JT and Marner get going quickly.

Kadri went into the boards awkwardly but got up and seemed to shake it off luckily. Hopefully it's not one of those where you wake up and all of a sudden it's sore and stiff. I'm sure he's still good though.

I know it's one game but that Leivo-Kadri-Brown line did not impress. I'm sure a couple games into the season it'll look more like Johnsson-Kadri-Kapanen which is a far better line.

Game 1. I care less about lines, more about individuals, and really those looking for jobs.

Week 2, once the no-chancers are gone, we'll start to see some line combos worth evaluating.

But on Leivo: he's too vanilla; has size, but doesn't really hit much; has a great wrister, but not great wheels; isn't a dog on the puck like Hyman or Brown either, so hard to figure out what to do with this guy.

On a young bubble team with some gaps, but talent (Buffalo) or a total rebuild (Ottawa), he'd probably get top 6 minutes or at least PP2 and put up 20 and eek out a career, but on this stacked Leafs group, his time came and went.
