It was a very dumb play...but I doubt it will define Domi's season. Apparently Ekblad gave him a good slash beforehand, but I can't find a replay that shows the whole situation.

I get the impression he thought Ekblad was gonna fight him so he was going for the first punch. It doesn't excuse what he did but might explain why and maybe reduce the suspension (if any).

I don't think he cares much about a preseason suspension...unless it would be for the beginning of the season ?

He didn't wait for Ekblad to drop the gloves, that's why it just looked like a sucker punch

Well it would be kind of dumb to suspend for meaningless pre-season games only, but then again I wouldn't be surprised

1 or 2 regular season games would be fair.

Personally, I would give him 2 regular season games, but if Ekblad is ok, he probably just gets a slap on the wrist (he's a "first time offender", no?)

I always thought a 'sucker punch' was defined as the person didn't have any reason to believe he was gonna get punched, or he wasn't expecting to get punched.

Surely Ekblad knew he was gonna get punched, or was close to being punched.

I don't condone what that idiot did, by any means, but I wouldn't call that a sucker punch.

Also, when Domi does something on the ice, and his old man is at the game, are we gonna see his old man's ugly f'in mug on tv every time?

Oh there have been more sneaky sucker punches for sure, but according to the "code", you're supposed to wait till your adversary drops the gloves before punching, and so Ekblad wasn't fully expecting it, hence why we're calling it a sucker punch

And yes we're gonna see his old man's face everytime lol

Fair enough.

But if I'm 6'4" and a guy 5'10", is giving me the business, I wouldn't stand there like a limp Richard.

Kinda embarrassing really..
