How did he even make to the NHL is that is an accurate description of Haag as a player? Why does Hextall keep him on the roster?
- MJL

I think they want more grit on that back end. Something I'd generally agree with, but he does have limited puck skill. The kid is young, odds might be stacked against him but I hope he improves that part of his game.

He does have nice hair.

That's probably the best starting 6. I'd even consider Folin above Hagg. At least he's an acceptably below average puck mover who can make the odd pass and shows some semblance of puck poise. It's truly impressive in this day and age how poor a passer Hagg is, and he was like this in the AHL too. He takes an eon to make a read and get the puck off his stick, and when he does, it's wildly inaccurate and half the time goes for an icing. Everything is just slow with him. And in the o-zone, he has no poise and shoots it on net the second he touches it; players in front or not, distance be damned. He kills possessions in the offensive zone, and it's hard for him to get in the offensive zone to begin with. This coaching staff's infatuation with him is aggravating. Sooner he's out of the top 6 the better.

Wont ever get the Hagg hate..
I dont see him as a top 4 in anyway but I do see him as a 5-6.
Clearly though dudes on a forum can see him for what he is and not the people that study him all day.

Haag is certainly a limited player and I agree, I don't see him as a top 4 player but the description of Haag as a player offered is simply not objective. It's hyperbole.

Sorry forgot that we can't have opinions and must blindly trust the decisions made by the organization. I guess Ottawa fans shouldn't question anything the Sens do.

There's opinions and there is nonsense. Read the post. Does that describe an NHL player? Common sense suggests that NHL execs such as Ron Hextall and an NHL coach would be able to see the same thing if it was accurate.

Pass went behind him and he was turning to retrieve the puck. It was Folin who put him in a vulnerable spot.
- bmeltzer

Looked like Sanheim flubbed the pass then turned to retrieve it to me. Either way it was just bad luck. Hope he’s ok.

I wanna see if you guys agree or disagree. Keep in mind, I’m aware it’s preseason and the coaching staff should be free to Experiment.

On the top Power Play, the umbrella being used I believe was T.J. Brennen at the top in Ghost’s spot. Patrick on the right half wall in Voracek’s spot. Konecny in Giroux’s spot.

Even before the Sanheim injury, do you not want the defenseman in the line up with the most offensive potential in Ghost’s spot? That being Sanheim in this game. Also, in the case of Konecny and Patrick. Didn’t Konecny play some right half wall time on the PP last season (maybe it was Weal) and wouldn’t Patrick be the most threatening in G’s spot? I’m basically asking why Hakstol wouldn’t switch the two forwards.

Am I off base?

- SuperSchennBros

Sanheim was on the top PP prior to injury. Then, in the 3rd period, Myers got rewarded and put on the top PP.

Brennan was there in the 2nd period for one power play.

I think it had to do with where they plans on playing people with the real pp.

Maybe it's a touch extreme but the eye test and stats both show a player who wasn't particularly good in any zone. And yes, I know he's a rookie and he can improve. But I don't think he should have been starting ahead of Sanheim, or even Myers. Also he was healthy scratched for like the last two months of the season so that kinda shows that the coaching staff didn't see him as a top 4 mainstay.

More than just a touch extreme. Myers was not ready for the NHL last season and it remains to be seen if he is ready this season. I'm hoping he is. Last season Sanheim struggled mightily in his own end which is why he was sent down to get his game in order. At that point in time as far as being a regular in the NHL, Haag was ahead of him. Haag like any rookie had his ups and downs but I disagree that he didn't play some good hockey for the Flyers. I never saw Haag as a top 4 mainstay or a top 4 defenseman period. He is however capable of playing a 3rd pair role in the NHL.
