Karlsson expected to get eight-year contract offer from Sharks: report
Sent with @NHL #Sharks #Karlsson

Both Karlsson and Burns on the same team just isn't fair!!

Try to think of it as a team that will put us in a position to draft Jack Hughes.

How could have JB fixed so that Sutter isn't a top 6 center on this team this year?
- manvanfan

My thoughts aren't really about this year, they are from when he signed him and called him a "foundational player", I don't want to beat a dead horse but I've disliked him and Benning from that moment on.

Sutter was never a foundational player and he paid him too much back when he signed that contract. Water under the bridge, his time in Vancouver is coming to an end.

There's a lot of good stories to talk about, like Dahlen making the team, so I'd rather talk about the positives we can see!!

Better team defence will help out the goaltending. Won't win much more until Demko is ready for full time duties. Fine as the young offensive players will need a year or two. Small climb this year and then SCF year after. Just need a lotto win is all.

We're done with the Lotto. Gotta make the best of picking 9-10 then go from there.

Well Benning traded for Sutter realizing that when Hank left he needed a guy that if needed could step into the 2C. As much as you or anyone else who doesn't like it you can kiss Jim's fat pudgy ass.

Sutter can step up if needed for a short time while EP learns , but will more likely be giving him protected minutes and not getting his ass beaten down. Sutter will go against the top lines as will Beagle.

It takes time and like I said earlier I like the looks of this team we just need our young stars to mature.

- VANTEL

The whole thing was just bad asset management on Benning's part, but again, there's some good things going on to talk about now so I won't digress into it.

I don't think any amount of alcohol is going to get me blacked out enough to forget about the year 4 contracts, maybe nighty can recommend something?

No we're not, all non playoff teams are part of the lotto

Philadelphia went from 13th to 2nd in 2017 to select Patrick, as an example.

This is not new, I've said it many times, I've also stated that if Beagle is in your top nine, your team is in trouble. Beagle represents everything that's wrong imo with the Jim Benning tenure, which again, I've stated is why I'm mostly not a Beagle fan.

I agree, he needs to be paid half his salary to be of value.

The whole bad thing was because of hanging on to friends too long instead of starting a rebuild 4 or 6 years ago.

He has drafted well . He has traded well . He has found stop gaps to fix the team temporarily.

He had started off rough with the Gillis mess but he has turned the corner in the last two years.

Sutter has been a strong voice in the room . He scores timely goals and he is the teams best defender . He is your match up guy against other teams best players. What are you expecting from a third line center?

JB traded for him when he had Henrik and Horvat ahead of him. 3LC. Drafted McCann and that didn't work out and with the quick decline of Henrik. Otherwise Sutter probably would still be the 3LC this year. Sutter could still be the 3LC this season if EP or AG show enough.

Really without Sutter it would be Horvat and Beagle as the number 2 center or Van could have traded a bunch of futures for O'Reilly or signed another 30 something year old center to a even larger contract then Sutter.

I won't speak for you but having Sutter around is probably a hell of a lot better then the latter two there.

Lefty just doesn't understand the process. Nazem Kadri was the TML 1st line center and now he is the 3LC. The process has rough patches.

This team would be brutal without Sutter this transition year.

even the pom pom waivers don't think this team is going to be very good this year. I expect to be pleasantly surprised.

He could have traded Virtanen for Galchenyuk, and then hope that one of Pettersson, Galchenyuk and Gaudette can actually play C in the NHL.

That's just one idea.

Not sure if you know this or not, but the team has been brutal WITH Sutter the past three years, they finished 2nd 3rd and 7th last.

That's the point, they didn't really need him, they haven't had any young players other than Horvat to shelter although Willie Desjardins threw Horvat to the wolves his second year and cast him as a second line center.

Benning was looking for something in Sutter that just wasn't in him, that's my point. He could have finished near last with a replacement level player instead of going out and getting Sutter.
