The best teams in the NHL dress a third line centre who could be a first line centre on a bad team. If Chris Tierny ever plays third line centre on a contender, I'll apologize to you in writing.
- james_tanner1

Well you are already wrong since the Sharks used him as a 3rd line C and he spent some time as #2 C when injuries arose.

Don’t forget Danny Heatley. It was only four seasons, but he lit it up.

That Chara guy wasn't bad at the hockey either.

Tanner- you do not know hockey if you think Karlsson is the best player Ottawa ever had. Remember a guy named Hossa? Much better overall hockey player, even to this day.
- powerenforcer

Hahaha....perfectly reasonable, unbiased opinion!

Karlsson is already a two-time Norris winner, and probably deserves to have at least one more. Hossa is a good player, but to put him in the same league as Karlsson is complete nonsense

Karlsson is, HANDS DOWN, the greatest Senator of all time. I get that's kinda like being the smartest kid on the short bus, but it's very true

Flames got more for Dougie... albeit with 3 years left on the contract, but to not even get a top 6/top 4 guy in return for a franchise defenceman is just awful.

Picks are not going to be good, players are not going to be much of anything...

Ottawa just moved themselves back at least 5 years from relevancy with this trade.

Stone will walk after the season, Duchene would be smart to follow and then you have a shell of an organization.

I have to keep reminding myself that it’s not the Leafs making these moves. It was our M.O. for generations.

bookmark this.

Neither Erik Karlsson or Brent Burns will score 60 points this season.

And Burns will score more points than KArlsson.

John Tavares wasn’t traded. He lied and told front office not to trade him. That he wanted to be an Islander.

at the time of the trade there was no indication that the Sens would become this dumpster fire that they have become

What is more shocking is that if they had this rebuild set in motion during February, why in the world did they keep the 4th overall plan if they knew they were going to trade Karlsson.

Either they are totally lying or they are totally dumb, either way they should have never kept the 4th overall pick based on where they are today

"In the end, if everyone called their bluff and EK walked for nothing, the perception of their front office reputation as “competent” would have been a better return than what they got."

I've never once seen a front office who lost a big FA for nothing in return be called competent. If OTT held Karlsson and he walked, people would've screamed about how they got nothing back for him when we all knew he was leaving. They were in a no-win situation here; this was just one possible loss and they look the not-worst option.

Worst trade in NHL history? Stop already. The Islanders traded Luongo and Jokinen for Parrish and Kvasha so they could draft DiPietro first over Heatley or Gaborik. The Bruins trading Seguin was worse. Plenty of trades have been worse.

This is not good, but you gotta love Tanner's reaction to everything.

he isn't a 4th line center. thats a fact. I ma sure he wouldn't even get into the Arizona lineup.

so who are the best teams who have centers who can be top center on bad teams?

bad teams being buffalo Edmonton Arizona. as they were bottom 3 I think.

- rinaldo

I can think of several 3rd line C's who'd be top C in MTL. Not proud of that fact

There have definitely been worse trades, but this has to be up there.

I usually don't agree with Tanner, but I his assessment is pretty spot on.

Sure, but the Sens may have officially just passed the Oilers in terms of how inept an organizaiton they are. they are without a doubt a bigger mess than the Oilers right now.

Deserves one more? Yeah right. if anything, you have to subtract that one that doughty got robbed of, that got awarded to him.
