San Jose may be making a push to land Karlsson in order to prevent him from heading to Vegas this time for real.
Dreger said yesterday on TSN that word he heard in Ottawa was that he would be moved sooner than later, and possibly in "a day or two". He also added that Vegas could be his destination due to them "willing to include in any deal, something(s) that they weren't willing to at last year's trade deadline, with one player specifically mentioned being Shea Theodore.
The questions, however, would be if Vegas does so, if that would prevent Bobby Ryan's contract from having to be included in any proposed deal now to acquire Karlsson. But in addition, regardless if Ryan doesn't have to be included, the Knights roster would be squeezed for cap space for the 2019/20 season, despite the cap expected to rise again. That's due to both Karlsson likely then being paid long term at least $11M per season, and due to three key players having expiring contracts next Summer, in forward Alex Tuch, d'man Nate Schmidt, (who could be traded if Karlsson lands there long term), and center William Karlsson.

The Rangers should have won that series in 5 games instead of losing it in 6 to Ottawa, due to blown leads, and some questionable coaching including inadequate player deployment causing those blown leads. The OT and 2OT losses were the difference, despite Hank having the better SAVE %, and ironically, not due to the Rangers outscoring Ottawa by 1 goal overall, but due to outscoring them on THEIR OWN power plays. Those special teams results this time did not work in the Rangers favor.

Now some here can finally stop the talk of E.K. becoming a Ranger during the first year of a rebuild, and having to turn over an important part or more of that rebuild to acquire him.
San Jose must have come in hard to save their Cup hopes in the West, after yesterday's rumors in Ottawa that Dreger mentioned on TSN, as per the talks with Vegas becoming very serious to have a deal done in "a day or two". Word yesterday also was that Karlsson would be addressing the Ottawa media today, even if a trade had not come down yet.

Pagnotta says that Karlsson is the only roster player to go from Ottawa, so I guess Ryan is still there. Doubt the Sharks couldn't fit him under the cap.
