Some place warm, a place where the beer flows like wine, where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I’m talking about a little place called Aspen.

Doesn't change much. Randell, Pekar, Oglevie, O'Regan, Cornel, Criscuolo, Glotov and Porter are 100% going down for forwards. Borgen, Fedun, Hickey, Redmond, Stephens and Tennyson are for defenders..

I'm wondering who makes the bottom 6. Not who the camp invitees are.

I think Oglevie has an outside shot to make the roster, hes got good speed could be good in a fourth line checking role.

Larsson is a goner for sure. Who else goes?

Somehow I think Girgs is set there. House likes him. Sobotka maybe? Thinking not.

Blow U is a candidate.

Edit: Guhle, Thompson, Asplund, Nylander, Malone, Olofsson, Pilut, Smith...all could be pushing for spots this year...some of those like Asplund, Malone, Guhle and Thompson could very well make the team out the gate. Could get hairy.

Ballsy call on Asplund Pach. I like it but I don't think the Sabres will do it. Something about "vets" deserving it and rookies haven't "earned it".

Was excited about him, but he struggled in the prospects challenge. He's getting a shot more because of his age and being the new shiny toy methinks. Nice goal in game 3 on a rebound, but lots of turn overs in the first two.

Nelson and a 2nd for Rasmus Sandin?

-Keep in mind Nelson plays defense and GM, he's a big add.

Let's say Berglund and ERod are bottom-6 locks.

Let's also say they carry 2 extra forwards, and 1 extra D. That leaves 6 forward spots (4 bottom six, 2 extra).

The candidates are

Sobotka
Pominville
Wilson
Girgensons
Larsson
Bailey
Baptiste
Asplund
Smith
Olofsson
Malone
O'Regan
Nylander

From which to pick 6. Who ya got?

Love the idea of it, and maybe in a true meritocracy it might be the best play. However with waivers and the really strong focus on building up Rochester as a stepping stone to the Sabres, I can't see the Sabres making this decision.

I do imagine Rasmus Asplund getting a call up for like 20 games depending on injuries and what not, but it can't hurt his development to spend several months in Roch.

To be fair though, i haven't seen the kid play yet though, so I don't know.

Great read.

I'd add Thompson as well. Someone will probably get hurt during camp to make it a little easier.

Sobotka, Pommer, Girgs, Thompson, Wilson, and Bailey/Baptiste would be my 6.

Baptiste Asplund Pomminville
Wilson Malone Girgs

Nylander, Thompson, Olofsson, Smith, O'regan are top 6 style players. Stop trying to Buffalo these players and keep them in their suitable positions

Good read. Have to worry about being that young down the middle and making Asplund the go-to defensive center on opening night. Just feels like they'll be cautious and use Berglund/Sobotka in that role.

I am being told that our O-Line is not that bad and that the pass protection was good. I didn't know 6 sacks was a good stat line... then i am told they are "coverage sacks" I am starting to understand this whole sport of football now. Thank you Bills Mafia.

I'm pretty sure Stevie Wonder can see the O-line is bad.

Feels like Thompson, Nylander, Bailey, Baptiste are battling for one top 9 slot, with
Smith and Olofsson with an outside chance. If none of them earn it, then it gets swallowed up by vets.

Thompson. Girgs, Baptiste, Asplund, Bailey, Pommer

Sobotka I simply don't know much about, but the Blues fans surely seemed happy to be rid of him.

Berglund-Asplund-Thompson
Sobotka-Erod-Baptiste

Wilson
Girgensons - if you can retain 50% and move Pominville. If not, swap girgs and pommer
