It'll make for a great debate for the rest of the year:
a small, dynamic American goal scorer with obvious ties to Vancouver via Quinn followed by a much bigger, more traditional Canadian all around forward in Cozins and then, just to make it a bit more juicy a potential #1 D from Sweden that has size and could pair well with Quinn in the future.

Nice analysis & next draft looks good for another piece added to our prospects šŸ‘

Called agility & elusiveness. Anyone can get hurt. Size doesn’t necessarily mean tough & it’s actually easier to get hit or hit & be hurt.

Stereotyping in sports is purely men thinking bigger is better. Talent is talent & having any bias is having blinders on. Size & skill is a rare commodity. Size & speed rarely gets any results that produce scoring. Speed & skill are the dynamics that top any list. Smarts is always key.

When it comes to the thought process around the perfect player, I believe old school thinking is still entrenched in the NHL. Not as bad as NFL but still very much a thing.

I look at resilient players like Trottier.
Thick & solid is what matters. My experiences are those doing the banging are prone to more injuries. Contact sports take there toll.

I can’t shake thinking about that scene in Moneyball when Beane was in a meeting with his pro talent scouts and he’s like ā€œwhat the (frank) are we trying to doing here?ā€

I think most of us would be like that listening in on those meetings.

I think Vantel is just trying to liven up the thread. Definitely a topic that could generate disagreement.

There are other players I would prefer.Nothing wrong with a different voice

Exactly. But I think it’s dangerous to give up on a potential star just because of his size. If it’s a case of too many small players you just get rid of the less skilled small players on your team.

It’s real early anyway so no need for us to be specific about Hughes. I just have a feeling that skill might outshine size as the NHL evolves.

Those same Oakland A’s are still doing the same thing & lose players to big contracts later on. Yet to this day they still do it & it still works. Winning in a pro sport goes far beyond analytics & stats. That’s when the W’s pile up & the eye test tells the truth.

Why are the flyers even a thing in this thread? Leafs I can understand but there seems to be a lot of flyer chatter and that’s concerning.

Just staring at my list & thought if Hughes is gone then who is best for us for need?

Podkolzin could a be big scorer
Broberg a top 2 RHD
Cozens a real good 2C
Newhook slick
Krebs top 2C

End of the best 6 IMO & like any of them picked.
