21 forwards 5'10" and under scored 40 plus points last season
86 forwards between 5'11" and 6'1"
44 players 6'2" and up

Only the best smaller players make it. Still wouldn't give up Hughes and the future isn't that small for Van's forwards.

Boeser, virtanen, Gaudette, Pettersson, Horvat are all over 6'

- manvanfan

Virtanen has played himself off of “future core” status, but you’re right about the rest.

NHL is getting softer every year as well. Playoffs are still physical though

On J Hughes & his smurfness...

How could we not pick him?
Trade down or what idk but hard to pass him on IMO. I do like some more size but if not elite talent then no. The top 2 D next draft at this point look interesting. Also like Cozens but not positively sold yet.

A: b/c we won't have the 1st overall pick.

But what’s the trend? Are coaching styles changing? Player development choices becoming more “liberal” and not stuck on old school thought?

Will smaller players be given a great chance to succeed in the future?

- bloatedmosquito

Stereotyping in sports is purely men thinking bigger is better. Talent is talent & having any bias is having blinders on. Size & skill is a rare commodity. Size & speed rarely gets any results that produce scoring. Speed & skill are the dynamics that top any list. Smarts is always key.

I think the NHL has gone from a league that is 6'1" as the average for a forward to maybe 6'.05" Getting smaller but still years after if ever from becoming a league where 5'10" is near average size.

Glue guys never play themselves out. I was talking about forwards not core forwards.

A middle of the road team at best. Nothing special in the big picture.

I don’t feel confident in saying he’ll for sure be a Canuck in 5 years. I do about Horvat/Boeser/Pettersson

He’s hinted at not loving Hughes as much as most people before I think.

Too soon for me to debate prospects but if Hughes lives up to his hype again this year and is still the consensus #1 prospect then that’s who I want

I think I read somewhere that he produced more than Matthews did at the same age last year

- Nucker101

It'll make for a great debate for the rest of the year:
a small, dynamic American goal scorer with obvious ties to Vancouver via Quinn followed by a much bigger, more traditional Canadian all around forward in Cozins and then, just to make it a bit more juicy a potential #1 D from Sweden that has size and could pair well with Quinn in the future.

Sure...
Boesser, Pettersson, Dahlen Gaudette and OJ will not play a single game together for the club in the regular season.

For sure.

But it’s still too early to even know who the debate will be between, at this time last year guys like Merkley were projected top 10 picks. Woo was top 20 on some lists.

Nico came out of nowhere(relatively) to over take Patrick 2 years ago.

meh.
im with Nucker on this one.
JV is still developing, but no way is he part of the core at this point.
I hope he becomes part of that core, but he's not, yet.

You must have missed the response was not about core players but just forwards.

Even then, doesn’t make sense to really factor him in when planning 3-4 years out from now. His presence should have zero influence on who you draft with a top 10 pick.
