If you consider the intangibles, Actually he's not ! Panarin has NO physical game, can't fight for teammates ! Simmonds can score as many goals, and supplies the physical aspect !

You’re one of those idiots.

stick to making bad rumors, neither player that you said matches panarin ability. we are not giving him away. no thanx
- redsfanhere

No? Then I guess maybe he will be walking away. You ding dongs are all the same, think your player is worth a treasure trove of assets, but here’s the facts, and it’s no different from the Erik Karlsson situation in Ottawa.
Very good player but wants out and is an UFA at seasons end, you’ll take what you can get and it will probably be a decent prospect, an okay player with a contract and a conditional 1st round pick.

Pacioretty is a LW.... He's not playing 2nd line center in Philly.

Is no one going to address how Eklund thinks Pacioretty is a centreman?
- ChrisGoalie39

I took it as putting Giroux back at C and Patchjes takes LW spot

Yeah, for sure. He doesn't have the age or injury history of Simmonds nor the declining production of Pacioretty.
- Aetherial

Injury history? He has been healthy aside from last season..... He has played at least 75 games every season minus the shortened season

Simmonds is a declining asset whose body is debilitating. Not much of a physical presence soon. Also, fighting does not win you hockey games or the Cup. Goals and assists and making plays help you win games, both of which Panarin is much better at than either of these two guys... So Florida led the league last year in fighting by a lot, trying to get fans into their seats maybe?

As of Apr 8, 2018

8 Detroit Red Wings 20

Panarin is worth at least 2x Pacioretty, and 4x Simmonds in value.

& Karlsson is worth 100 times more but they wont get that value because of one thing in common. UFA in 1 year. At this point they are all 1 year rentals & any smart GM is going to wait until January to make that rental acquisition & make sure their team hasnt crapped the bed. We are going to be in the same boat in 3 years with Gaudreau. Chances are he will want to play for an Eastern team for his next long term contract.

That’s an interesting list. 5 of those teams missed the playoffs, 2 out in the 1st round and one (duh) won the Cup.

So Fighting doesnt win hockey games, yet all but 5 made the playoffs and 1 won the cup, you attribute fighting to Simmonds and show a list that shows Flyers are nowhere to be seen on the list of teams that fight.... Makes sense.....

Simmonds does not fight often. It happens from time to time. Physical presence does not only mean fighting. It means he is physical in front of the net, opponents do not move him easily, he battles hard along boards and wins those puck battles and throws the bodies which pressures players to play the puck to avoid being hit. These things DO help win hockey games. Simmonds had an unlucky season last year with injuries. If you bother looking at the list of injuries you can easily see some of them are freak accidents. Prior to last season Simmonds had Four 25+ goal seasons(29, 28, 32, 31) with 50-60 points( 60, 50, 60 , 54). Even last season playing hurt, he got 24 goals and 46 points

Patches has been the best goal scorer of all 3. Prior to last season, his last 4 goal totals are: 39, 37, 30, 35. Points 60, 67, 64, 67.

Panarin in his 3 seasons has 30, 31 and 27 goals with 77, 74, 82 points. Correct me if I am wrong but that isnt 4x better. That is more like 0.25x better. It was already stated that there would be a + in any swap given the upgrade Panarin would be.

Trade value comes down to more than just players skill. It comes down to the value GMs place on a player, that is determined by the news that comes from the teams. Right now Panarin and Pacioretty do not sound happy with their situation and want out. That lowers their value because GMs can see how it is going to go if they dont trade him. Talk out of Philly with Simmonds is much nicer than the other 2.

Philly is not in a situation where they have to trade Simmonds. Re-signing is still an option and even if he walks, we will keep him for a playoff run like a rental.

Columbus is in a similar position where they can keep him as a rental but GMs know that he's gonna walk. So the offers are going to be low balled.

Montreal is a whole other story. They need to trade him as they wont be in a playoff position and if he walks for nothing that is a huge blow to the team. GMs also know that re-signing is out of the question.
