Random observations:

Gilbert is noticeably big on the ice especially when compared to the tall but lanky Entwistle and Ejdsell.

Sikura is great at looking at his options and finding the open man even in tight quarters.

Kahun is sneaky and elusive.

Knott is wearing the C (didn't watch yesterday's game so not sure if he wore the C in that game as well). Wonder if Colliton will hand out a C this season. The Hogs didn't have one last year and various players wore the A. I'd imagine Johnson, Highmore, Pelletier, and Tyler Sikura may also be candidates to wear the C.

the guy has a strong wrist shot of a smaller packaged player, it is freaky.

I liked that Connor Moynihan scored on the PP with Dylan Sikura out there....

I thought it was Fortin that scored on the rebound of Sikura's shot

He's still noticeably slower than most everyone else on the ice but if he can get lots of OZ time, his shot and hands are top notch.

Anyone think Kahun makes the team out of camp and factors into the top 6 immediately ?

He also is older than most everyone in this tourney plus has been playing in a men's league in Europe and he should be better than most. Doesn't change the fact his skating is terrible.

Schmaltz will be playing center. No matter how many times he put on the wing by everyone.

The Hawks view him as a center.

Pretty sure it was - their numbers are similar with 84 and 85. Every time I watch, Sikura-Kahun-Fortin are being kept together as a line and as a PP unit.

Kahun will make the team out of camp because he'll go back to Germany if he doesn't. They're not going to just throw him out if he has a bad camp because he was pretty highly coveted so they'll at least give him some time with the team.

I think how he performs in the dot every day of camp will determine whether he is an asset where they need him to be...

Well all my blistering criticism of Ejdsell lit a fire under him just as I planned.

He had a much better game today even not counting his 2 goals. Didn't have fumblitus like he did yesterday and used his reach very well to break up plays. Yeah, he's not fast and I'm not sure if the real Ejdsell was the one who played yesterday or the one who played today but I feel a whole lot better that he may play into the Hawks plans at some point.

Lot's to like in today's game. Goaltending was better. All the d-men played pretty well and if I had to pick a defensive star of the game I would probably pick Carlsson by a smidge over Beaudin. Couple nice hits by Gilbert there too. Overall quickness by the Hawks was noticeable as they got to pucks and disrupted plays very well.

The big line played well again. All three of them were used on the PK too - quickness is evident. The one thing Fortin has to learn to stop doing are those attempted little flips to himself at the blue line which end up being turnovers. That's one thing Q won't tolerate and it will keep him in Rockford.

Well it's only exhibition so no big deal but I'm about 99% sure it was #84 - not #85. Fortin was out with Kahun and Sikura on the PP as they played together all game long except for 4 on 4.

I think it was Kahun from Fortin after Sikura fought for the puck along the boards behind the net. Sikura was a few feet away from Kahun who snuck in down the right circle to put in a quick wrister from a behind-the-net feed by Fortin.

ETA: Sorry, I was referring to the Hawks 4th goal. The one you're talking about was in fact Fortin after a slapper by Sikura to cause a scramble.

I thought the tandem of Carlsson and Tuulola played pretty steady. Not flashy but fundamentally sound.

Gilbert did play physical which was nice to see. Good hits. He was out of position quite a bit, though, so something for him to work on in Rockford.

Yeah, they def missed it - here is the video: https://twitter.com/Nonni...tatus/1038519387131662338

And a pic right after:

You can clearly see 84 Fortin scores (in front of the net in the pic with 95 Sikura skating towards him for a celebration). The other guys on the ice are Kahun, Sikura, Boqvist, and Beaudin and they were the top PP unit both game.

Absolutely everyone tweeting the game said it was Fortin as well - the beats (Laz, Powers), the Rink, Icehogs, and Chris Wescott (official Hawks writer).

That was the last 4th goal - we're talking about the 2nd one where Sikura one-timed it and Fortin got the rebound in close, fell a little as he did it.

4th goal vid for anyone interested btw: https://twitter.com/Nonni...tatus/1038535781328060416

Even with Nick at center, can you see Kahun in the top 6 as a wing?

Possible but I see him as a great fit with Anisimov on the 3rd.

Adds speed and help (hopefully) at the dot.

This was the story last year too, he was playing C, until he wasn't. Not saying he won't play C, but just because they want him to play C doesn't mean he won't end up playing some wing again. I am not sure why folks get so bent out of shape about it. It wasn't like playing him on the wing was a demotion. If the team struggles and his 40% at the dot he managed last year slips, I don't see why they would keep him at C.

Edit: I didn't mean you specifically bent out of shape, but just saying people get offended if he isn't slotted at C.

NHL or bust: Dominik Kahun prepared to return to Germany if he's not included on #Blackhawks' NHL roster

We already knew Kahun had a euro-out clause like Panarin, Kempny, and Forsling (for a limited time) in the past but this is the first confirmation that he would use it if he did not make the NHL roster. Tikhonov had one in the past as well but did not use it when he was demoted and then traded. None of the others were ever had need to use it.

- L_B_R

Kahun won’t need to envoke the Euo-clause. He’ll stick with the Hawks in a top 9 role.

The Captain is usually the kiss of death for making it to the NHL. Organizations tend to lean towards AHL veterans.

The most logical choice for Rockford's next campaign is Andrew Campbell. The 30-year old been a captain in the AHL 4x total and 3x in the last 3 years (Toronto and Tucson).
