Star wars is about the rise of fascism in a democracy and how easy it is to plant fear in a population.

Easy, episodes 2 to 8, plus rogue squadron and solo are all very well done movies. If you follow the jar jar is a sith lord theory, episode one is also a good movie.

Three great movies, Rogue, Empire, and Awakens. Could put any of the originals in there but I spread it out.
You can't remove a third of the epic and tell me the isn't any great movies. In itself that tells me that you agree they're great movies, especially a new hope before greedo shot first.
That's like saying pick a nhl all star team but no Canadiens.

Episode 1, awful.

Episode 2, fun battle sequences but poor writing and poopty plot.

Episode 3, so much cringe. Bad acting bad writing but pretty visuals to distract from that.

Episode 7, JJ Abrams mystery box formula with no pay off at the end. Overplaying their hand in terms of pushing the diversity aspect.

Episode 8, Took the very little that was good about ep 7 and threw it out the window. Made terrible use of characters from the originals, pandered to the audience with half the movie wasted on a random and useless "save the animals" plotline.

Here's my perspective on this stuff. With movies, like with music, I like to look at everything with a critical eye. I'm no expert but I've done a fair amount of studying both mediums to understand their components and what makes things work or not. I don't think there is a "right opinion" because art is totally subjective but I also don't think that a large number of people liking something should qualify that thing as good.

When you break down the modern star wars movies they all fail in several regards. It shows lack of quality writing/directing and when you examine some of the pieces of those movies closely you can really see the shameless pandering and laziness that was involved in making them.

We all have our likes and dislikes though. There's music I listen to on a regular basis that I would never ever say is actually "good" I just happen to enjoy it. Star wars just bugs me because it's a prime example of brainwashing the masses to the point that they convince they like an inferior product.

Why does it have to be one or the other? Can't we enjoy both as a fan of the scifi genre?

The original Trek movie and the one where they went off to discover god were pretty bad. The new Abrams films are certainly spectacular, and the characters are pretty good.

While it is different because the context of when those movies came out is important I could easily argue that none of them hold up today.

Ep 4: Bad acting bad dialogue.
Ep 5: Story becomes boring at times, same issues as above.
Ep 6: Predictable ending, same issues as above.

However. For the time they came out those movies were revolutionary and the fantasy aspect combined with fantastic music and a sense of adventure make those movies very enjoyable.

I wonder if Woo is going to have an injury prone career. We really don't need another Tanev coming in the next generation.

Which would have made it that much more a reversal – if he went from the most despised character in the films, to being revealed as one of the most powerful Sith Lords and coordinating the Republic's downfall (while changing his voice, hopefully)... would have been a big plot twist that would make his antics in the first films bearable.

You can't exclude episodes 4 5 and 6. Rogue decided from the norm and episode two originally had jar jar being exposed as the Sith master Darth plagious but he panned so hard in episode 1 that Lucas cut the idea.
The expanded universe including the cartoons and graphic novels are also pretty good. I am pissed they dropped Timothy Zahns novels as they were grade a.
