I love what he's doing. He used the cap as a resource to swing better trades, right up to limit of what's comfortable short term and long term.

Finally a GM with some savy trade deals. Exactly.

Buffalo made the Top 2 of Corey Pronman's League Prospect Rankings on The Athletic...if you care...and subscribe. Whether or not he ranks them better than Vancouver will be revealed tomorrow, I think.

Obviously this is because of Dahlin/CM, but still, JB has done a solid job with 3 firsts next year to play with

I didn’t know what I was getting into with Tusk, I won’t voluntarily watch those type of movies, they linger.

I hear ya, just don't think we're close to having to move on from good players. E-Rod isn't going to make big bucks, neither is McCabe unless they show something they have yet to in the NHL.

Looking at it, Pommer going helps absorb some of Jack's money. With Bogo, Moulson to come, Mitts and some of the lesser depth players should be covered. Three years from now is when it could potentially become tight, but by then Berglund can be moved, Sobotka is done...lots of dead weight is removed in favor or cap space.

That's all, not saying it's absolute either, but I think "tight for the foreseeable future" is a bit pessimistic, especially when looking around the league at the dire straits some are in.

I'm still in favor of a Jarnkrok deal for him. Perfect utility man. Plays all forward positions and I see him having a very surprising season. I would sign him now for 5 years

33 pts in 80 career games = .41 PPG

Girgensons 101 pts in 348 games = .29 PPG

ZG is making 1.6

I'd offer Erod 5 years at 1.75, I think it would be a steal

Sean Tierney had an image on Twitter today where he had the leagues “most average players” on it and it included Girgensons and Gorges interestingly enough

I didn't mean this to disparage ZG - though I tend to do that. I just meant this as a price comparison. I think most successful teams should have contracts that look really, really good. I think Erod is a candidate for that.

I wouldn't expect his speed to decrease in that time period, and his scoring potential is high IMO, in addition to the versatility he offers in terms of LW/RW/C. He even filled in admirably in Eichel's off-wing PP position while he was hurt. The only potential downside is health, but I believe a player with his speed will always be moveable at $1.75

If we're forced to sell Skinner at the deadline for another 1st, would you want to trade 4 first round picks in next years draft for 1st overall?

I’ll answer that with another question... would you have traded dahlin for 4 firsts?

I wouldn’t have, and I very highly doubt anyone that could draft Hughes would either.

I thought that too. If Hughes remains that high of a prospect come draft time, you're right, no one will trade the 1st. If he cools down or has an injury the 1st might be in play.

Realistically, if we have to trade Skinner, our 1st round might look something like picks 8, 20, 24, and 28. That's going to keep the barn full for a long time.

He mentioned if Dahlin and Mitts weren’t included they would be ranked in the early teens. Safe to say they are #1 though. Vancouver’s prospect pipeline is very impressive however can’t top Dahlin.

Either way I agree we are is great shape moving forward, if we add one more high talent guy we are going to be a force in a couple years, we might even have that player already in the system ( Olofsson)
