The more I hear Johnson speak, the more I like him as a future GM.

Did you buy season tickets to the Yotes?

BTW....being a GM isn't a popularity contest, everyone likes Benning (the person) and he's one of the worst GM's in the league. It's not about being a nice guy, it's about making good decisions for your organization, even if they're unpopular.

Mike Gillis was a complete bumhole, but I'll bet a large sum of money if he'd have been able to draft better, he'd still be employed but Aquilini. Being good at your job far outweighs your personality imo.

Gillis was an ass and he was a dumb GM also. He pissed off the media , the NHL and other GMs . He did horrible contracts and mostly bad trades. There are many reasons why he is still not in the NHL

Agree, I'm saying if he'd have been able to draft well and keep the team competitive, he'd probably hung on for a few more years. Despite his personality faults. People will look past your faults if you're really good at your job.

Gillis was kinda like Donna, he's neither a good poster or has intelligent conversational skillz. He's just bad at everything, which is why he's using a picture of the biggest idiot the world has ever seen as a USA President as his avy

I think he sucked. He did years of damage . We are still paying for some of his mistakes (Gaunce )

Honestly I think he was one of Canucks worst GMs

his contracts seemed okay to me....

trades were hit and miss, drafting sucked though

overall he was an average GM imo, started off well but got worse as time went on

I'd classify Benning as below average

He was actually very good at adding depth to the organization and signing cap friendly contracts. Where he faltered was not being able to see past the competitive years of the Sedins. His drafting was probably the worst in the teams history!

its good for the canucks though imo, more ice time for youth

Ballard for 3 first rd players

Luongo for Markstrom and a rental

Roy Art Carney . Great deals

7 or 8 of 23 contracts had NMC/NTC

one pick in 8 years of drafting that was good

He stunk

like I said, he got worse as time went on. Your ignoring the good he did when he first took over.

picking and choosing just a few moves without looking a the entire body of work is a poor way to analyze any gm

that's the cost of getting lower cap hits, without those ntc's, this team doesn't get to game 7 of the scf

i went from being a big fan of gillis' during his first few years to being ready for change when he got fired. i had high hopes for a new, more balanced front office

benning/fenton/mcnabb as the scouting type

gilman as the numbers guy

but that didn't really work out as gilman was shown the door lol and Benning's NHL scouting is questionable to say the least....

The trades for Ehrhoff, Higgins, Lapierre, Horvat were all good trades, signing Torres, Demitra, Hamhuis, Malhotra and Samuelsson was also good. To go along with some very bad.

You've gotta see it from both sides...

The Canucks have yet to acquire a legit top 4 dman under this regime.

Gillis was mediocre, but at least he got Tanev, Hamhuis, Ehrhoff, Garrison, etc.

I think it was easier for Gillis to sign some better quality players given the team was in a competitive mode. Benning hasn't had the same fortune, but yes, they need to either draft one of acquire one in the coming years as they get better on the ice.

True, but..

Ehrhoff was a trade, Tanev a UFA.

Hamhuis/Garrison were easy since they were hometown boys and the Canucks were good.

Yeah that Ehrhoff trade will go down as one of his best. A cap move for Doug Wilson but man did he let a 50 point dman go for nothing

I like your enthusiasm but they haven't yet. Hughes is sure to be one but the others have to play some games first.

If Tryamkin wasn't such a candy-ass he'd surely be one right now!!

I'd certainly hope that the GM who's picked 6th, 23rd, 5th, 5th and 7th does better vs the guy who picked 10th, 22nd, 29th, 26th, and 9th
