I think the new era(as far as realizing winning teams) starts next year.

@Hank

Looks like the halo might have saved another one today. WTF was Hulkenberg doing? He admitted to (frank)ing up, but Goddamn, that's one hell of a cockup to launch Alonso like that.

It tickles me to no end to hear Mercedes complain about other teams being faster than them, as if the only way that were possible is if they were cheating. Hamilton could've had him, but he was impatient, went too early and locked it up, missed the apex and was (frank)ed from there.

Verstappen with one of the nicest moves I've seen in a while on Ocon, shortly after the safety car. If he can do that, instead of shunting more often than not going forward, he will be someone to watch out for.

- Wetbandit1

Yeah, that could have ended badly without that halo. Still hate the way they look but...
We will find out who has the better engine upgrade next week at Monza. Sure looked like the scuderia cars were driving away from the Mercedes this week. Vettel sucks in the wet, if it was dry him and Kimi probably would have locked out the front row. I was eager to see what kimi was going to do with a new 3rd spec engine, he’s been on the original spec-1 motor the whole year whereas vettel has been on the spec 2 for a while now.
Verstappen is going to kill someone sooner or later. I hope Renault steps their game up next year and ricciardo can stick it to Red Bull (I think they’re going Honda next year anyways so they’re essentially (frank)ed from the get go).

Sabres are on the climb. Bills have, at least, set themselves up to be competitive in two years, but for a long duration. Lots of cap coming back to both teams. Both have some young guns that could hold the team in good stead.

I'm excited to watch: Dahlin, Jack, Mitts, Reinart, Risto...AND...Allen, Edmunds, Milano (I know, I just like him) and White.

At least, we should have interesting sports games to watch vs the perennial losing we all got used to here in the past decade.

Even if the Sabres don’t make the playoffs this year they’ll be a lot more entertaining. Having a shot at Jack Hughes doesn’t hurt either. Can potentially have 3 top 25 selections in next years draft that GM’s are already blowing their wads over.

I don't want Jack Hughes, not because he isn't a good player...we must be better next year. I agree, at minimum, it's more entertaining hockey. I'm excited to see what Skinner can do with a real offensively gifted centerman.

And have heard even next year's draft has some depth, it will be good to restock the cupboard OR flip those for some real quality.

Honestly, my goal for the team (haha) is that we don't get a top 10 pick next season. This would be an accomplishment.

Developing Allen slowly is a GOOD THING

We all knew when we drafted him that he was the least ready
No need at all to rush him into the lineup

Yesterday was a blessing in disguise

Doing what’s best for Allen- in the long run- should absolutely be the most important factor here
He’s still likely gonna get in at some point this season

And with all the Cap room we have next year, we can build up the line & get him another WR
Build a better team around him,
and let him learn some more...
that’ll put him in a much better position to be successful

Oh believe me I’m rooting for playoffs as well. And I think even if we do miss the playoffs we are drafting in the 10-14 range. I think St.Louis will make the playoffs but thinking they’ll go through Winnipeg and Nashville is a tough task. I think Botts did well getting their first rounder. Sharks will also be a playoff team who I think will win a series or two. That pick will be in the 25-31 range and should be the pick that is moved if we indeed move one of the three.

I think all that is fair. I too would be surprised if SJ can't put together some wins in the post season.

Still, I wonder given the way some of the best teams have built around the draft, whether or not just standing and picking is best. If it can get us another Skinner, fine, but unless I'm knocked out...I like 3 first round prospects entering our system.

Totally agree
I’m not trying to bash him
Allen not being ready yet is OK
Let’s just make sure we develop him right
Just bc he isn’t the NOW,
doesn’t mean he still can’t be our FUTURE

It was always gonna be a huge ask to get him ready to start by opening day

Yeah, that’s true
Doesn’t mean what Allen said was inaccurate though either

Louis Ridd!ck was just saying (on NFL Live) how they started Patrick Ramsey too early & it ruined him
And that he believes starting a rookie QB before they’re ready can be detrimental to their long term development

I like the part about fixing the OL and getting him a steady WR.

I forget if it was his or Peterman's pass that Benjamin dropped through his hands, but either way, him as #1 is tough, especially with a line that can't hold.

Let him develop as you say, get a better center and an actual #1 receiver, he may look completely different. I still think he's the most talented of the 3 QBs as of today, but don't want to ruin him as you say.

Allen is far and away the most talented QB
Not even close
That doesn’t mean we need to rush him onto the field though either

Let him develop more- it can’t hurt

And put him in a situation where he’s got a chance to be successful, not get killed

I know it’s sucks having to be patient...
but like i said,
We all knew when he was drafted that he was gonna need time
