"Lehner was basically the only somewhat promising goaltender left on the market, and the Islanders were virtually the only spot left for him to land. Former Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen is also a free agent, as is former Blue Jackets, Flyers and Jets goaltender Steve Mason. But their recent histories are not encouraging.

Like those two, Lehner has struggled with injuries and consistency, but he’s been on bad teams more often than not. At 26, hopefully he can find stability under Barry Trotz, and perhaps Mitch Korn, the longtime Trotz goaltending coach who has reportedly at least had talks with the Islanders. (He’s also, however, talked with the Capitals about remaining in D.C.)

Lehner became a free agent this summer when the Sabres declined to give him a qualifying offer, as he was coming off a $3.15 million salary in 2017-18. His stats have trended downward through is career, right along with the teams he’s played for."

There was an article a while back somewhere talking about Hutton and the Sabres and right at the end of it there was a link to another article about the isles signing the best goalie in free agency. I laughed, someone posted the link here actually.

I was hoping so for a bit too. Unfortunately that turd came pre-polished and covered in whipped cream before he ever arrived.

Yeah, I've always rooted for the guy. Good teammate. I remember Rex would throw him in for the odd QB sneak on 3rd and short during Tyrod's first year, and he was always super pumped. The announcers were saying he's in a battle for the backup spot this year

Listening to Islanders fans and their misguided optimism about Lehner on the NHL network is hilarious/sad. They're really grasping for any hope whatsoever. "Lehner is crazy and big. He should do well behind our defense. If he doesn't pan out by playoff time, we can flip him for something else."

Dude was making what last year? $3.5M? They signed him for $1.5M.

Sorry to be short with you, but I interpreted your quote as saying "cracking 80 points" is hitting 80 points.

Not necessarily 81 points, just breaching the 80 point plateau.

I would take "over 80" meaning 81 points or above.

I still think we will be much better then YOU have implied.

But, I also do NOT argue my points when i have NOT watched a game closely.

Nah, theyre both lefties. Watch just a couple minutes of his tape. Only a couple goals last year were with the goalie out of position. It’s pretty impressive. The guy can shoot the puck.
Also, he did just lead a pro league in goal scoring last year, >.5gpg. I’d say he’s proving himself to be a shooter.
