After being recruited by his former team all summer, Toby Enstrom has finally made the decision to return to Sweden for the upcoming season.

Ogil,

Curious as to who you see as a potential better PTO option that Troy, that would be willing to sign on the cheap?

Nick Shore

ETA: I would actually like us to sign him to a contract, not a PTO.

Honestly, I could see Bowman going back to the well and resigning Jurco. If they're kicking the tires on Brouwer, why not him too.

Yeah I wonder what the story is with him. Can’t seem to stick anywhere, maybe a PTO first so they could get a better read on him!

Agree. His numbers don't seem too bad, and his entire contract could probably be buried in the AHL.

Not sure we know how fast Zeus was in his late 30s - but - Brouwer is only 33 (last week), so he still COULD have something left.

I just don't see what value he brings, given the chancy prospects the Hawks have of making the tournament (let alone contending for the Cup) with or without him - and all of the young players they want to evaluate and develop.

He has nothing left in the tank.

Bowman should sign Jurco, he played well to end the season last year. As a 4th line forward / 13th forward he'd do just fine.

I don't mind Jurco if Bowman is in the slim pickings phase at this point (versus if he pursued and resigned him on July 1). At least Jurco is a known quantity and is still young to have fresh legs and giddyup to be effective in a limited role. Everyone knows now that he's not a top 6 talent at the NHL level but can be good as a bottom 6 forward.

If the team is going to be an also ran, fans will be looking for reasons to watch. No argument - a non-contender that it is quietly committed to a rebuild should not sign Brouwer. But Jurco does qualify as a reason to watch the team. He is the kind of player that would skate for the Hawks when Dollar Bill owned the team. No thanks.

Jurco would be a solid depth forward and better than a lot of the UFAs out there.

I would have thought Jurco had KHL stamped all over him -after all that's where a lot of Hawk cast-offs end up at, which has included that guy that got traded for Leddy, that guy they traded to get Versteeg from, Rundblad, and I am sure some others too.

I guess they don't even want him - I guess there is always the Melonville team.

Yeah, lots to like about Mitchell. I actually think he will be the more balanced and well rounded of the big 3 (Boqvist, Jokiharju, him). So let's say the Hawks strike out on Boqvist, Mitchell and even Jokiharju are not bad consolation prizes. Not by a long shot. Will Mitchell equal Hughes? Probably not but he also won't be Barker or Rundblad.

Then when you factor in the full depth of the blueline prospect pool, it's still not that bad overall. Less pressure on Boqvist (or any other singular prospect) to be a savior and more reliance on a potential back end that could be solid, possibly stellar, on both sides of the puck with the big 3, and the likes of Krys, Beaudin, Hillman, Gilbert, and Carlsson.

Mitchell looked better to me than any Dman in the Hawks system. I watched probably 4 or 5 Denver games I think last year.

I remember the first one, I thought I remembered that some draft picks for Hawks played for them, but didn't remember who. Mitchell dominated that game, he was clearly the best player on the ice, was all over the place, and could really skate.

At the end of the 2nd period, I went to the Hawks website and saw that both he and Hillman were Hawks. After that, I searched every weekend to see if Denver was playing on CBS Sports or NBC Sports.

4 years from now, Hawks D will be very solid.

Rumor on Rotoworld that the Rangers are at the top of Panarin's list.

FWIW, Eklund rumor today of a possible 3-way trade with Jets trading Trouba to Leafs for Nylander, then Jets flip Nylander to Flyers for Sanheim so that they can replenish the D-man they would lose in Trouba. Jets are stacked at forward so really no need for Nylander so the 3-way deal makes sense.

Or the Leafs skip the 3-team transaction and just deal 1 on 1 with the Flyers to trade Kapanen for another Flyers blueliner (not Sanheim but someone lower on the depth chart).

Hockey News article about 4 high profile young defenders who are up for new contracts: Hanifin, Nurse, Morrissey, and Theodore (all 4 on the list above).

Wonder if Jordan Schmaltz would be worth pursuing and more affordable compared to these other 4?

Miles Wood had a solid season in the Devils bottom 6 last year with 19 goals. Worth a look but let's see what he does this season.
