An offersheet with an AAV over $10,148,302 and it's four 1st round picks. Anything less and Toronto easily matches.
Aside from the offersheet being tabled, the first thing that would need to happen is that Marner has to sign the sheet himself. Not happening. - As_I_See_It
not exactly. AAV of the contract doesnt dictate the compensation. Its the total amount of the contract by 5 years that does.
If you sign him to a 8.1mx5 year contract its only a 1st 2nd 3rd. If its a 7 year contract at that amount then its 4 1st rounds.

And from draft day:
He came to the draft wearing a blue shirt and blue and white tie. He said it wasn’t on purpose.
“I like blue,” he said. “I go with that a lot as my colours. I was sitting there with Stromer and (he noticed it) and he said ‘You probably planned this.’

Leafs will sign Marner long term (7 or 8yrs) with a hometown discount, every knows that. Leafs are by far the best team in the league and Marner will make most of his money in sponsorship like Canadian Tire, his salary is not as important like in other markets.. |

A 5 year sheet at $8.1M is instantly matched. No team would table that and it certainly wouldn't be enough for Marner to even consider jumping ship for.
An offer as low as $8.5M x 6 would equal 4 1st in compensation given the sum of the contract ($51M) that would then be divided by 5 = $10.2M |

No biggie. First off.......offer sheet means nothing unless Marner signs it, and I think we all know he wants to stay in TO. Secondly, even if he signs it, Leafs have option to match. Thirdly, if the offer sheet cap hit puts the Leafs in a tight spot, they trade Nylander if need be.
The Leafs have a number of very good players and they won’t lose them without having a say in it.
For me the toughest decision they have is Gardner........they need to find out what he wants and it they can’t afford it, trade him and don’t let him walk for nothing. - Bullot
I don't think they'd trade Nylander. Got Marleau on the last year of his deal. He's the one who'll go. |

That's a good problem to have. If someone Offer Sheets him, and the Leafs already have Tavares, Matthews, Nylander and Kadri et al. signed, they could be in line for (4) firsts as compensation. That could set them up for not just immediate but long term success. |

Correction: most of his money will be in sponsorships like Caribbean Tire - an obvious tax shelter. |

Leafs fans aren't really looking for long term success.
Seriously, just give us a franking Cup, and we can go another 51 years.

I agree with this notion. I think Toronto will be one of the first major examples in the modern NHL where you see several young players signing for less to stay in a place they want to be and play together. Toronto gets these guys signed for 6-8 years together. The NBA has been trending this way for a few years too in some aspects. Being in a big hockey market helps a lot when it comes to endorsements where this is a lot of money to be made. |

How much did Tanner pay you to post this and you're saying Marner will be selling white walls on his off days? Cool...

leafs would match instantly and every other gm know that so they won't even bother
EK, if your "sources" weren't imaginary, I'd feel sorry for them for hatching such a ridiculous concept.
it's the Toronto Maple Leafs. not the Habs or the Sens or the oilers.
Most guys would love to play in TO.
