There seems to be A LOT of Buffalo fans riding a wave of high expectations again... I could be wrong but I feel like they are going to be let down even worse than when they expected Eichel and ROR to carry them to the playoffs.

They are banking a whole lot on Middlestat, Hutton and Dahlin having such good seasons that they are all of the sudden going to be a 30pt+ better team...

I don't know, man... Risto and Okposo should rebound a bit; Eichel and Reinhart should take their next steps; They added Skinner, Sheary, Sobotka and Berglund; Cut some dead weight in Lehner, Pouliot and Gorges.

A 30 point improvement will be tough, but I definitely think they'll be improved.

Sadly, I'm willing to bet it doesn't have a happy ending.

Not saying Pickard is worth anything, but thats not exactly true.

Lehner was traded for a 1st (Colin White)
Cam Talbot was traded for a 2nd and 3rd
Antti Raanta was traded with Stepan, for a 7OA and DeAngelo

those are recent ones. Youngish backups who put up decent stats seems to get a reasonable return

Their goaltending is horrible

They lost Orielly.....a top 20 Center in the league. They will be better but playoffs will still be tough

Was just about to say Bracco. He should have great opportunity with the Marlies this year after going on a tear towards the end of last year. I think he'd be great on Matthews' wing eventually.

He was given the career AHLer label like Kapanen so should have a chip on his shoulder. He's so skilled and fun to watch.

My guess would be:

Are Sparks, Rosen, Kaskisuo and Oziganov still considered "prospects?" If so, it could be tough to fit any one of these guys into the top 5 given the names listed above.

Is there? Only one I've seen that thinks they're gonna be great now is Garf (he's already called Dahlin the best d-man in the world ). Most I see just think they'll improve from what they were. And I agree. They'll be better but probably still a bottom 10ish team.

The jury is still out on Hutton, but he had a solid stretch there last season and has gone 30-15-5 over the past two seasons, albeit with STL, but still.

I like O'Reilly, but I've also think he's been a bit overrated over the years imo. Skinner although a W should replace some of what was lost in ROR.

Still don't think BUF is a playoff team this year, but stranger things have happened. Given the number of powerhouses in the East and especially in the Atlantic with TB, BOS and TOR near locks for the top 3 spots, best case scenario BUF would be battling with NJ, PHI, FLA and CLB for a 7/8 spot.

That should be a good watch....hopefully it has a good ending.
