I did this the other day

Steve Young
Teateverde
Rich Gannon
Kerry Collins

Now you tell me...

How does it hurt Allen if he sits for part of this season?
You really think that’ll make or break whether or not he becomes our “franchise” QB?

Because he isn’t at that level yet
This kid didn’t come out of college like Luck or Manning or Elway, etc etc

There’s nothing wrong if they don’t think he’s prepared enough to start right away

That’s not a big deal, at all

- jdfitz77

steve young wanted out of tampa which is why he became a 49er

allen has a much better arm then goff

just say you want him to sit and the bills go 4-12 gerbe

How many rookie QBs have gone to the playoffs? It's a short list

I do not put training wheels on dahlin

if he can handle 24 minutes a night, give it to him

- homiedclown

EXACTLY

“IF he can handle...”

That basically equates to
“IF Allen is ready”

If Allen is having issues reading defenses & knowing where to go with the ball,
then do u not see how more film study and practice can help him?

I’m genuinely perplexed at how anyone is taking an issue with this

And I’m still waiting to hear how Allen not starting week 1 will hurt him?

The 2018 Bills are nowhere near the surrounding casts of the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals had at that time.
- Pegullaville

steelers were 6-10 the year before they drafted ben

baltimore was 5-11 the year before they drafted flacco

bengals were 4-12 the year before they drafted dalton

we were 9-7 and a playoff team

want to try again, you just got owned

Steve Young SUCKED on Tampa
He became a great QB when he learned how to play the game

And being a QB today is even more complicated

Those guys all did better once they had a better understanding of how to play QB
Which they didn’t when they were thrust into starting before they were ready
Maybe those other guys weren’t “franchise” guys, but they were all pretty good to some degree
And all legit ProBowlers

If Allen is ready, really ready, then great
Let’s go

But if he’s not, sitting him won’t hurt
Not one bit

It’s impatience & foolish to think Allen needs to start day 1

you learn more on the field with the first team practice and behind center on sunday then you learn holding a clip board

we don't have drew brees holding him back

this was a playoff team last year

the d will be better

so I am saying allen gives us the better chance to get back in the playoffs this winter

yeah

peterman is nothing more then a backup qb in the nfl

Jemarcus Russell had a better arm than Goff too

You need to be talented Physically
(Allen is)
AND
Prepared MENTALLY
(Tbd, but right now, i think he needs more work)

To be a GREAT QB

Won’t hurt Allen to LEARN MORE before he starts for us

You're obfuscating.

That makes a huge difference

tampa was my second favorite team then

they sucked

the only team that went south quicker then the bills when knox left was the bucs in that era

Then why doesn’t every rookie with upside & a higher ceiling automatically start?

We don’t have the team around him that Big Ben or Russel Wilson had

Ppl are “trained” at first before they go out & are expected to do their jobs... right?

All I’m saying...
is that i think (as of now) that Allen needs more training

You don’t teach someone to swim by throwing them in the deep end
All they do is learn how to not drown (hopefully)

So let’s teach the kid how to swim the right way first

So that when he does get in,
He’ll be on the path to be Michael freaking Phelps (in this analogy)

Let’s make sure this kid is our Aaron Rodgers,
and not our Joe Flacco

it's week 3 and allen is working with the first team in preseason

when aj does not have a fractured collarbone

the plan was to take it slow with allen, now he is with the first team for the most important pre season game of the year

things change

Idk what u mean here?

Offenses & defenses are both very complicated in the NFL

Much more so than he was used to at Wyoming
That’s what i was trying to get at

there is nothing to prove playing him or sitting him determines what he will be

nothing

peyton, elway and aikman turned out just fine playing on crappy teams and getting pounded their rookie year

god this is worse then when you said lehner was better then rask

there is nothing to show it's better to start a qb in year 1 or sit him

if they sucked when they started for 2 years, they sucked when they went somewhere else

just because some were good after being on the bench for years, some others on the bench still sucked when they got their chance

if peterman was so great, we would not have drafted our franchise qb, allen

So did plenty of QBs who turned out to be crap, including plenty of Bills washouts.

There's no downside to letting him sit a few weeks. The downside to starting him is injury/concussions/happy feet that will last a career.

I'm not saying that will happen, but it's not a risk they have to take

I’m not saying to sit Allen for 2 years though!
I don’t even want him to sit for all of this year

Either way...
if Allen isn’t our Franchise QB,
then we are screwed

All i want is to make sure he’s the best prepared he can be
(or at least better prepared than he looks *to me* right now)
mentally before he’s expected to go out there & produce

I don’t want him developing bad habits bc he was overwhelmed by having to start too soon
And yeah, that is a legitimate concern imo

I really don’t see why that’s so unreasonable?
