Erod-?-?

Those are the only safe players on the roster imo barring a shock. So Wilson, Girgensons, Larsson, Bailey, Baptiste, are fighting for 2 spots. With Thompson, CJ Smith, Nylander, Oloffsson, Asplund waiting in the wings. If one of the young guys impresses in camp then what haha.

- Pegullaville

You are bang-on with your assessment as to who is safe or not. Now, i personally wouldn't like that as our 3rd line but those 3rd liners you have all penciled in are "safe" to make the team. As others have pointed out, we need to do some 2 or 3 for 1 trades. Or at the very least, trade guys for draft picks. Another nice scenario would be to waive Larsson, Girgs and others to Rochester and then have somebody snap them up.

I think he's a roster lock, in terms of being on the 23-man roster, but I don't think he's a guaranteed night-one starter

I think he will at least try to move out a couple guys
Even if it’s just for late round picks

It would be great if he could pull off a 3 or 4 for 1 trade like Homie was talking about a few weeks ago

I’m thinking that Sam has to get signed before bringing in any other $$$ though,
just so we know where we are at with the Cap

Wilson's here, 99.9% confident. You don't sign a 2 year contract with a team to be sent down or away immediately. He's here at the very least until the TDL. And highly likely until at least next TDL.

Believe it or not, Pominville made his linemates better in all situations. He'll play. He'll play the entire season barring injury.

Wilson is a lock. Bet on it.

Guaranteed opening night starters (not necessarily the lines):

Skinner-Eichel-Okposo
Sheary-Mitts-Reinhart
Erod-Berglund

On the 23-man

Sobotka
Wilson
Pominville

2 remaining spots assuming they carry 2 extra forwards, and 1 D:

Thompson/Girgs/Smith/Larsson/Bailey/Baptiste.

Also, regarding Pominville, if the Sabres were so inclined, I think they could get a 4th or 5th if they retained half of Pommer's salary. His play at $2.7 would be valuable to another team

Then we will come up with an excuse to say they need seasoning??? Asplund, I could see, same with Tage and Smith, but think Olo and Nylander start down in RoChaCha regardless of a good camp or not. Can't put Nylander on the 4th line and Olo probably does need a few games on the smaller surface to get his timing and angles down.

As of now,
I’d say that’s a pretty accurate assessment

And for the defense:
Dahlin, Ristolainen, Scandella and Bogosian all seem to be here for sure,
probably McCabe too
Nelson looked like he’s earned a spot in the top6, or at least on the roster
Then there’s Beaulieu & Hunwick, who are probably depth guys, and could possibly be sent down to Rochester
Would either get claimed?

Guhle & Pilut seem to be the wild cards who could play well enough to jump ahead & push someone out

Damn, that's a good thought. Botts, is that you? Also, i agree with all of the players you have noted above.

Yeah, that makes sense

Possibly
Pommer does have a family & NMC clause though
He might not wanna go anywhere
Part of why he waived for Minny was bc it was Buffalo he was coming back to
He may have gotten assurances from us that we wouldn’t trade him

That’s what I’d think too,
but if Guhle makes the team...

Dahlin-Risto
Scandella-Bogo
Guhle-McCabe
Nelson

Do we carry an 8th defenseman?
With the extra forwards we have, Botts might choose to only carry 7

We probably don’t want to trade Hunwick,
Bc then we’d have to give up a better pick as part of the deal we made with Pitt for Sheary
BUT
I could see us putting him through waivers to see if he gets claimed
He makes over 2mil i believe,
and it could be nice to have that extra Cap room
Especially if we can’t get rid of Beaulieu

Or they might even like Hunwick as a Vet leader in Rochester?
I could see multiple scenarios playing out as far as his spot goes

Good for any home game for the rest of the year

One argument for starting peterman imo:

If Peterman struggles, you can put Allen in

If Allen struggles, you can't pull him out. Once he's in, he's in

Gerard Gallant and the new coaches are safe.

So like 7/31. I'm not even sure if I would call Reirdon safe. It's a results based business. Hell, Torts got one year in Vancouver

- jcragcrumple

Barry Melrose got like 8 games, but in fairness, he sucks and inexplicably hated Stamkos.

Depends what your definition of sooner is.

I think if Peterman plays the first four games, either he's shown he's good enough to keep us in contention, or he's done. If we're 1-3, the pressure is off Allen and he still gets 12 games to learn.

I say let Peterman start this week, the traditional "false start" for NFL teams pertaining to their opening day starters.

If he impresses through the entire first half and then comes out strong in the 3rd, you let training camp play out with him as the default #1 after the McCarron injury.

If Peterman lays an egg, you run with Allen managing the first team going forward, give at least him the entire first half of the final preseason game, if not, the entire game, and get him ready for week 1 unless he looks beyond awful.

Not necessarily
Look how much better & more prepared Peterman looks now than he did last year

Dahlin is a #1 defenseman
Does that mean we should play him 28min a night to start?

Allen is gonna start this week,
so it looks like they’re giving him the chance to be the Week One starter

If he does well, he wins the job

If not, they likely start with Peterman

I think we will all have a better idea Sunday night what we should expect
