That was Toronto, like two years ago. - deadpoulet
Probably more like 3 maybe even 4 years ago, pre Babcock, Matthews Marner etc. Pacioretty is kind of like Kessel I guess, once they move him they can start a new culture. I dont see much changing in the meantime. The Habs will probably get a better return than the Leafs did for Kessel so that'll be a good jumpstart. |

If there is one team rated lower than Habs management it would be the Oilers. And I believe they're all English speaking. Go figure? - Hardbalz

McDavid is fantastic player, only took the oilers 4 first overall picks to get him. That's really great work by the management team. One was garbage, one got traded for 5-6 d-man that scored 4 goals last season and a whopping 13 points, while Hall won the MVP, and the last guy is on the trade block. They also signed Lucic to a monster long term deal and he really delivered a beauty of a season.

Is it the oilers fault no one came out of the top 5 in the Yakupov draft to be an elite player? Honestly, name one guy who was expected to be upper echelon from that draft that became upper echelon. Name anyone considerably better than Nuggent-hopkins all around from that draft. Cant happen in either of those situations. RNH is debatable but there is no discussion for the Yak year. It was just bad. Hall year was a toss up and they obviously too the right guy. Different management made a bad trade and parts didnt equal the sum. But everyone knew they were gonna get bent over. Would it have been better if they dealt Hall + Nurse/Klefbom for PK? That was the rumor at the time. And obviously CmD was the right pick their other year. Which one should they have done otherwise? Gally instead of yak? |

The trade was a wash at best.
The leafs wanted depth for the stretch run and playoffs. And yes TP wasn't much help. Couldn't keep up with all the talent. Not his fault, just wasn't used to it.
MTL got two C grade minor leaguers at best.
Olofsson is never going to stand out anywhere. - HellsBells
It was a steal bud, Valiev and Rychel are minor leaguers who can fill in at the NHL level
Olofsson will be an NHLer
You can twist it and diminish it with your Leaf googles all you want but that was a W for Bergy
So hold this L fruitcake |

Wow, this comment badly miss facts.
Plekanec was your best C in the PO and Olofsson has much more potentiel then you would like to think (if you ever do think...). |

so yeah, what ever that means.
but sure they'll all play in the NHL only because they'll be playing for the Habs.
Rychel and valiev weren't even deemed valuable enough to play on a Calder Cup winning team.
No twisting, no diminishing. Just the way it is.
so I guess you can hold that L?? |

Yes, its a wash in your eyes because you lost that deal especially by bowing out easily in the 1st round, the real get was the 2nd rounder, Rychel and Valiev were just throw ins that bolster the farm (something that has been long overdue)
Thats a good haul for a month of Rent-A-Pleks who they knew was coming back. Great move by Bergy, ill give credit where its due |

Yes, mon ami, that WAS Toronto, not anymore, then they hired good quality hockey people to run their front office, they hired one of the best coaches, they made some good trades, they drafted and developed their young players and draft picks very well, their minor league team is coming off a Calder Cup championship and they signed the best free agent this off season. If they can improve their defense then the sky's the limit for this young team.
If the Habs can follow this model, then they have a chance to rebuild and become a good team because currently they are a big mess and most of the blame has to go to Bergevin for making bad trades, signing current players to terrible long term contracts and not addressing their biggest need which is at center.
I know the Leafs were terrible for quite a while but those days are long gone.

is that what your going back to now? Number of cups?
at least try and be original.
all you have is the thought that you may have won a totally in any form, non-conciential trade in which all players involved are and will be non factors.
Glad for yas.

He's not the best GM, but certainly not the worst. That said, his days in Montreal are numbered. The Habs will be able to get better quickly. They need a real centre badly - not a winger convert. The Subban trade - as ugly as it seems, will get more interesting when Weber retires early due to injury and Nashville gets it up the chute for $7.8 million a year for the last 3 years on the cap. Montreal may even do a little blackmailing before that happens. - winsix
biggest issue with Bergevin is that it's clear that he came onto the job with absolutely no blueprint for what type of team he wanted to ice and that's become clear when you look at the team he assembled: quick, undersized forwards who mainly shy away from any physical engagement and a big, slow defence with little ability to move the puck up the ice. nobody sets out to build that type of team. |

Max Pac numbers aren't terrific. As a Flyers fan, we always want better players, but I couldn't see sending young talent for him. Plus, they'd need to take a high priced player we don't want. It isn't easy trading a player who has a high salary and is good, but not terrific. |

First of all... wasn't replying to you... unless you have an alt account and just (frank)ed up.
second of all I wasn't referring to overall cups won by franchises. What I WAS refferring to was the fact that a lot of Leafs fans are putting a lot of pride behind a Calder Cup win, thinking it will equate to Stanley Cups. I'm simply pointing out it didn't happen for us.
Third of all... go (frank) yourself. |

Wash at best? He outscored Matthews come playoff time, and played some pretty fantastic checking defence from what I understand. The prospects may, or may not go anywhere, but the 2nd round pick was the icing on that cake. |
