Yeah drafting and trades tend to be the foundation of a championship team, there are thousands of examples of these. Just trying to really think if big UFAs really make that big of a difference. Yes, they all improve a team, but I am trying to figure out how important free agent signing is to a team.
My best assumption for building a championship team would be (in order):
How about Hossa, 2009 Detroit. Helped the Pens win that year when he jumped ship to join the defending champs.
As an aside, the Dude played in three finals in a row with 3 different teams. Starting his string of 3 cups in 6 years with the Hawks. 6 finals in a row 8 years with 3 cups.

Yeah Hossa is a good call. A really solid winger and for a few seasons teetered along being one of the best wingers in the game. He lost in the SCF with Pittsburgh (I think) before winning with Chicago.
