Leafs fans have got to quit saying that Zaitsev will be better this year.

It's what we all hope.

But it's a huge question mark.

For sure it is. But I has the faith!
It makes sense that he will be better though. He was injured last season and we could even go as far as to say it was a bit of a sophomore slump as well which isn't at all uncommon. He played better in his first season which means he's at least capable. It would be strange for any player to peak in his first year in the league.
But it's entirely plausible he may suck again.

I Agree - I thought Zaitsev was much better, he's worth another try - in a less critical role, but if he stinks this season, he might be a good fit in Seattle. But as Burns pointed out Leafs have significant party loot this season and this season only. A RHD with some talent should be on the Christmas list. And Dubas should go get it early as possible.

I think halfway through the season we're going to hope Dermott has an increased roll.
I'm not sure if he looks better because everyone around him is meh or if he really is the bees knees, but for stretches last year he was the second best defensemen.

Hainsey being in the top pairing puts an exclamation point on the issue. He should really be a 5-6-7 guy to be honest. A trade for now and hopefully Liljegren gets a call around March would probably be ideal.

Totally agree. I like him a lot and hope he gets more ice time.
