Outsider’s perspective:
- Babcock is a top five coach in the NHL, and that is without debate. What the Leafs are paying him is of no consequence to anyone...not even sure why that is coming up.
- Nylander is a very good player, but still needs to take a step to be up there with the Laine’s of the world. He wants to be in TO and I think he signs a team friendly deal, 6 years at $5.85 million.
- Tavares, IMO, has always been slightly overrated. Ranks somewhere around #10 in the league amongst centres and somewhere between #20 and 25 overall. That doesn’t mean he isn’t a first line player, or even a star...it just means that he isn’t a superstar.
From a guy with no skin in the game, either way.

Although some true points I hear that hes overrated alot. IMO I dont think hes ever been.I think he quietly does his job as an elite hockey player who happens to be a Leaf, which now means hes a Bozak type player. |

I'd put him solidly somewhere in the top ten centres, like in the group below McJesus, Sid, Malkin...and in that group they're kind of all tied. Like who's more of a superstar centre, Tavares, Stamkos, Seguin, Bergeron, etc? He's in that group of players where it's not Sid, but you still can't go wrong with any of them, they're all superstar centres. |

Having said that I think as Sid and Malkin get older, McDavid and Matthews will be the new upper tier |

Now if they can add Vermette to their core Centerman. Watch out.
The opposing team will not be able to keep their best players on the ice all the time so someone going to get some excellent matchups.

It going to be fun watch Toronto and Boston play each other this year.
Wouldn't it be wild if they met in the playoffs again this upcoming season! |

Another rematch with those (frank)heads where we have Tavares added would be pleasing. |

Still a solid pass from me. |

Ended up getting Andersen and Willy for my fantasy team.
Wanted Matthews or Tavares but couldn’t pass up Kucherov at the 2 pick |

June 30th:
Tavares is a top 6 centre in the league, a PPG player who had nothing to play with for 9 years.
July 1st:
Tavares is overrated, slow, bad defensively, and hasn’t won anything despite being gifted with elite wingers. Barzal is better. Giroux is better. Tavares is not elite. Ramble ramble ramble!!! |

So True, there was virtually no interest in him as an unrestricted free agent. And those teams interested were the dregs of the league. JT was so lucky to get a contract.

Did some research on Par Lindholm....I think he’s going to surprise people.
I think his talents can translate nicely into the NHL and will get some PP/PK time.
Around 10-15 goals and 35+ points. Book it. |

I would surprise me if he made the team.

Am I alone in thinking Dubas has a plan to add to the D. Still 3 roster spots to fill. Cap space may look plentiful but astute observers will realize where it's going. They aren't seriously going to attempt to outscore everyone all season? Maybe I am alone thinking that it is time to upgrade the backend. There are sill a couple of quality ufa's that would add to the depth without breaking the bank. |

I think he’s a pretty near lock for it at this point, unless they add a real threat to compete with him.
He’s a talented player, wether his skills translates to the NHL is a mystery. But I think they will. He’s a really good penalty killer, that skill usually translates easily. |

Enstrom will likely be signed. But I’m sure Dubas is still having conversation through trade.
Likely will have to sign Enstrom, who is still a solid bottom pairing guy and then evaluate what we have for the TDL.
If Minny sucks this year Spurgeon could be had for a McDonagh type deal. |

Agreed, the Leafs have a very good team. No point in spending extra just to get a few extra points in the standings
Of course unless a deal makes sense. Like the Skinner deal. |

It's the reverse Kessel effect
Remember when Kessel was the most overrated player in the league with whom you couldn't win any cups?
Until he got traded. |
