I love these Leaf trolls who can't understand that some teams are put together better than the Leafs. Do they have ELITE talent at forward? Hell yes. Better than average goaltending? Yup, especially if Freddy plays as well as he did last year. But the D isn't great, and you know it. Like with Price, when the goalie plays to the level they're capable of, they make up for a lot of sub-par play. And yes, the Habs suck, and so does Bergevin. Believe me I know. - Darksyde
but overall, good job

Someone is sore they weren't invited to the exclusive Ek party at the top of the East. As talented as the Leafs are offensively, until they shore up the defense some there will be naysayers. And believe me, as a Habs fan, I have more hatred for the Bruins than most, but even I admit they're put together better than the Leafs, overall. - Darksyde
We could use an elite D that excels in all situations for sure. That would make the Leafs a legit favorite(along with 3 or 4 teams). Still, our defense is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.
The Leafs are one of the best teams in the league with the D we currently have. We also have a (frank) ton of cap space for this season so we will get a deadline rental D of some type. Won't be an elite player, but he will be a quality D who eats important minutes and eases the burden on the rest of the gang. |

So let me get this straight... You needed a source to tell you that Spezza could have some upside in Ottawa unless he gets injured. Dude your sources know their hockey! |

For those playing, his reference to the 2 best Atlantic teams from last seasons playoffs that look really good again this season coming - Boston especially. |

The confidence in a club that has not won a series since near the beginning of last decade is commendable. Tavares is a great add, but maybe take it one step at a time? |

(frank) man, the prê ejaculation in this post is most impressive!
There's many 'other' teams as good & better than the Leaves right now. You guys lost talent as well - & Not poopty bottom 6 guys. How much is this quality Dman going to cost you & where will he come from? The great Lou couldn't seem to find 1, so we'll see. I'd give Florida as much chance as The Leaves at the moment. |

haha solid trolling! Florida is up there with Boston and Tampa....did you forget someone? - Njuice
😉 Some Toronto fans seem to look for the disrespect everywhere. What if Ek, by omitting the Leafs from the list, is implying that they are way ABOVE the other three? The guys already staking out their curbside spots for the parade might've seen his statement that way. 😏 |

News flash...
EK is being interviewed for a front office position around the NHL. His hockey expertise is in big demand. Nobody knows what it is yet so that leaves 31 openings.
And i quote ‘thats one such rumour i am hearing’ |

and i would almost include this one as well although he is definitely selling rielly short and if they do get a trouba/parayko type d, watch out - gonch
Well just 1 question IF i may...
IF Dubas doesn’t want to give up anything how do they get D?
No cap space so it HAS to be a hockey trade.

Its not nearly as good as you would make us believe. If the D is not as bad as you think what’s holding back the Leaf’s? Another question is a TDL rental D man who is not elite but gobbles important minutes are found where at what cost? So this minute muncher bounces another minute muncher hiding the D deficiencies as in Hainsey or Zaitsiev is a humungous bust. |

good question, and obviously i can only speculate but are we at the point yet where we are willing to sacrifice 1st rounders again? As a leaf fan and with our terrible history with trading them it's hard for me to even say that. players like kapanen/johnsson/sparks/brown these guys really aren't your average fringe skaters and hold decent value. maybe even you open it up to dermott. Gardiner would be someone i would be looking to move out since he is ufa and you have to give something good to get something good. for me the only ones that i would try to hold at all costs or it defeats the purpose are tavares/matthews/marner/rielly/anderson/liljegren and nylander...the first 6 are obvious for various reasons. nylander is the elephant in the room but if it was me, rather than getting a trouba or parayko if nylander is simply a must to do that, than i would instead get the best possible all around d that costs me various solid parts listed above, maybe a tanev or (a little less likely but maybe?) a spurgeon. but they need a number 2 defenseman badly, you guys are right about that for sure |

you are right about hainsey and zaitsev, who i think is now our worst contract. your a canucks fan, would you trade tanev for a package that included parts that aren't from the 7 listed above? i can't believe that two or three parts including either a 1st/ 2nd/ brown/ johnsson/ kapanen/ sparks couldn't at least get your attention...problem solved and even though we don't get a trouba or a parayko we still have nylander

Well, just right now, that's not actually correct. He's RFA but you don't have him right now. Anything is possible, even a trade of him for that elusive Dman. Wondering what Dubas will do here as Nylander wants a long term deal with probably lots & lots & lots of $$$$$$$$. |

I don't disagree that the Leafs lost talent but let me ask you this. Last year Toronto offers JVR, Bozak, and Komarov to NYI for Tavares; do the Islanders take that trade and if so who wins it? - Kinger34
Besides having zero to do with what the comment was responding to. The Isles win that trade so Garth probably wouldn't have done it. |
