that would be a reasonable assumption to make if you were the GM trying to acquire him... ie. not wanting to lose a player with Nylander's upside for a FA for example.

but me thinks... that if Karlsson were willing to resign with the Sens to make this happen... it would have happened already.

False. A team dealing with Ottawa could negotiate an extension before the deal is made so that after the deal is made the extension is already agreed upon and signed. It's what Tampa Bay almost did.

and that's why I maintain (despite Captain Broken Record's repeated blah blah blah) that the deal for Karlsson shouldn't happen from a Leaf's perspective.

I would in fact rather have Gardiner at 6M and Nylander at 6M than Karlsson at Doughty money.
