Its really frightening when you realize that Edler was the 24th(?) oldest defenceman in the NHL last year, at 32. Most dudes older than him are in the tail of bad contracts or former Norris guys who've only become simple top pairing defenceman.
- Lindenis#1

Yup. But his contract is up, the writing is on the wall with most of his old teammates gone. Hopefully he wants to try and go win somewhere. I'll be cheering for whoever he goes to. Career Canuck and despite all the pundits and fan poop has battled.

I think they will all make the team, but all top4 is a stretch. Tree would make things very interesting though.

Its insane how bad this team is and how much of it relies on basically the only 3 legit D prospects becoming impact players lead by a 160lb winger learning to play center.

Some are going to be hits and some aren't. It's the nature of the beast. A lot of the guys we have high hopes for may well be duds, it's the sad truth of drafting and developing. But it will be a lot more fun than watching a bunch of guys past their prime fading into the sunset.

They'll keep Edler around. He doesn't want to leave. He's still their best defenceman (and its funny how all his partners happen to be great when they're with him and dog poop away) and better to have someone who isn't terrible be cannon fodder than re-signing Del Zotto or finding a new Del Zotto.

Trying to tell me that penciling in this future lineup of guarantees

Dahlen-EP-Boeser
Lind-Horvat-Virtanen
Palmu-Gaudette-Jasek
Gadjovish-Madden-Lockwood

Hughes-Woo
OJ-Chatfield
Brisbois-Utunen

Demko
Dipietro

doesn't mean everything is over and the team doesn't need to make smart rebuilding and future conscious decisions?

There's always a new Del Zotto.

Edmonton might get themselves into pizza delivery. Same player, different person.

You might be right. He's definitely got love and loyalty for the team. It will come down to what he wants to do, at some point you have to think he may want to win still.

Seriously how many teams are built with 23 players under the age of 24

You'll have to keep a couple of spots open for 2019 picks.

A lot of guys I see as long shots to ever make the show. Ag isn't one, but it was easier to bold them all

The best case scenario is that 30% of those dudes turn into regular players and not just roster trash.

Prospects fail. I'd be surprised to see more than 6-7 guys from the pool have 200+ GP careers.

I would agree, but thats a low success rate and JB/weisbrod have earned better than a low conservative estimate. Boeser, OJ,Woo, Hughes, EP, Demko is already 6 I see making that mark easily. Lind I think is pretty close. After that it's the later round long shots, but AG looks like he could easily carve out a bottom6 role. JV is already looking like a bottom 6 guy IMO, I forgot about him. A lot factors in, and you're right there needs to be a grain of salt here but at the same time credit where credit is due

Ya that was good scouting too, but we were talking about draft and develop so I was trying to stick to that. I like Liepsic for sure, seems fiery.

You could probably barrel them into basically 3 groups. Sure things (a few guys), 60-40's (Lind, Dahlen, AG, Woo) and lottery tickets (Lockwood, Gadjovich, Palmu, etc).

After the sure thing players you're hoping to go like 35% on the rest.

He showed the same here he did in other stops. Hot stretch, disappears for a while, turns a few nice plays, is completely ineffective, repeat.

Amazing how Eriksson had two real season ending injuries right at the TDL

I'm saying hopefully Ottawa waits until the TDL because this might be our year to finish dead last.
