I wasn't aware that Stanley Cups were a reflection of individual success. Would you argue that Kuhnhackl is better than Giroux because he has a pair of rings, as well?

Eh, Kessel finished 2nd, just 3 points shy, in the 2016 Conn Smythe-trophy vote... https://www.tsn.ca/ballot...conn-smythe-vote-1.508739

Like I said, Phil can elevate his game when the spotlight's on. I'm not denying that. But I still say that Stanley Cups aren't a measure of personal success.

That's true (as you pointed out with Kuhnhackl), but Conn Smythe and/or playoff-scoring certainly is. In later Giroux was very good till 2010, but then fell off some cliff (when qualified)...

And its obvious that most Flyers-bloggers would rate him over Kessel, which standpoint i also can understand...

I hope Marchands career gets ended this year, is all anyone should ever say about Marchand.

I think it would be funnier if he goes to lick someone's fact again and dude makes out with him.

Like I said, were he to lick me, I'd be torn between ripping his throat out and and straight-up rape kissing him.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses. To me, the fact that Giroux has had to pretty much put the Flyers on his shoulders as the focal point of a less-than-ideal lineup with pretty good success puts him above Kessel. But again, I'm not going to get upset over it, just a good discussion.

I'm not a gay man, so I don't mean to imply that a man kissing another man is humiliating or wrong, but in this context the rape kiss would be way more of a lesson than ripping his throat out. Unless that's what he's into?

It's not so much the kiss and the forcefulness of the kiss on the (I'm assuming) unwilling recipient.

I still don't get how spitting on a guy is a penalty but licking a guy is not.

Agreed. I think refs just didn't know how to handle it the first time, but the second time they should have set a precedent.

in terms of offensive skill, sure. I know Wilson doesn't believe in much other than stats but the fact that one of them is a captain, has played C for the majority of his career and has been a better 2-way player, has to count for something.....
- Nucker101

I’m a huge fan of Giroux. I think he’s fun to watch play. I don’t really care about the whole captain thing. That’s whatever. I don’t equate being a captain being good at hockey. (Same with Cups). But their stats are pretty similar in terms of generating offense. I think (haven’t looked just yet.) Phil tucks a few more than Giroux but Giroux’s total ppg are higher. I would be curious to see how their 5v5 GF/GA and 5v5 p/60 compare. But I still think they’re prettt even. I’d probably personally rather have Giroux to be honest but I’m a huge Kessel fan too.

According to Ryan, Boston did a great job in the 2006 draft.

Drafted: Kessel, Marchand and Lucic. That is a pretty impressive haul, especially considering that all would go top 10 in that draft now.

I’d rather he be terribly maimed by a slew foot and falls way into debt because he can’t afford the douchebag life style anymore then turns to drugs and has to kiss old rich men to get drug money, then overdose.

So you want him to have his life ruined, and have his family and friends have to watch that happen, because he sometimes acts like a jerk on the ice?

Granted, I'd be cool if he was injured to the point where he couldn't play again but it didn't affect his life (i.e. Peter Forsberg's (frank)ed up foot) after hockey.

Kessel has more goals and points, but basically played two more seasons worth of games at the beginning of his career. Kessel has scored 100 plus more goals, and the playoff performances... probably rank him slightly higher then Giroux at this point in there careers.

Forsberg has some (frank)ed-up foot/ankle issue, which is what caused him to miss so much time post-lockout and ultimately forced him to retire. He went through dozens of custom skates and a few foot surgeries, but nothing worked. Had that not been an issue, he may still be playing, or at least would have had another 5-6 years.

So it's not something that affects his life, but it was the cause of his retirement.

That’s why I didn’t really look at total raw numbers because he had two more seasons than Giroux plus Giroux missed some time due to injury right? Not sure off the top of my head.

And how many bonus-points do you grant for grabbing a male-"officials" butt?

Btw., was really happy for Eric going HOF two years ago and seeing his #88 finally retired... well deserved.

I'm disposed to thinking Backstrom is better than Toews but that just might be because we play Backstrom way more than Toews. After that, I think I take G over Toews too. After those three centers, then I think you go Phil. Centers are just way more valuable than wings. You gotta go those three before you think about Phil or Marchand.

Toews is a very good player, but he is and always has been overrated.
