Terrible list.. Jones is notthe 6th best in the league.. and how could you rank Hamilton and Ellis so low!?

The real problem with this list though is no Morgan Reilly! He's a top 15 maybe top 10 dman for sure!

One of the reasons they dropped could be because the Flames performed below expectations. Like McDavid and the Hart. Personal success is great but if the team loses, the impact is less meaningful in the eyes of analysts.

These lists always suck. Jake Gardiner scored the same amount of points as Roman Josi and he plays better defense, but Josi is ranked super high.

The list isn't that bad. There are at least 30 defencemen who you can make a compelling argument for being in the top 15. It's going to be impossible to make a list like this that'll make anyone happy.

I was reading the top available free agents for 2019 and stumbled on a name caught my eye.

I think the we would all agree that the biggest glaring issue for the Flames would have to be goaltending?

As much as I like Smith (I certainly had my doubts) he was easily one of the most valuable players on our team last year. When he is healthy he has the ability to steal games for us, but he is getting older and if we have any chance of playing into the playoffs we need him to stay healthy.

Semyon Varlamov is a very intriguing name to me. With the acquisition of Grubauer and Varlomov being a potential Free agent does that make him available?

Do we have the cap and the pieces to make this work? Of course priority would be to sign Noah and Chucky but after that does BT have one more trick up his sleeve?

I think Management has definitely done a great job this year of making the team much more well-rounded the only question mark I have is the goaltending.

I love what Smith has done but he is only a stopgap. TRE needs to figure out what is done after this year. Going to have to make some space.

Depends on how Rittich and Gilles do this year. If one of them looks like an NHL goalie by the end of the year and Varlomov will sign a 2 year deal for Smith money, then sure.

If neither Rittich or Gilles look like NHL goalies and Varlomov wants a long-term deal, no way.

I'm not for Varly at all. NHL is a gentleman's game and he's proven he not one in the slightest.

Really hoping Gillies can claim that spot next year as full time starter

We'll have to see how Gillies and/or Rittich look first. The plan was always to get Gillies in as a starter eventually, and if he looks like he's an NHL goaltender this year then he might get that shot, but there's definitely some risk there. Same applies to Rittich.

I love Smith but he was never our long term solution. Honestly as much as I love the guy the best situation for us might be one of Gillies or Rittich stealing some starts from him so that we can better plan for next season.

This, of course, requires at least one of them to look like a bonafide NHL goaltender this season. If that doesn't happen, then maybe we get a guy like Varlamiov as ANOTHER stopgap until we find a long term solution.

Tre might already have a lobg term plan in place, but while goaltending is the only real concern I have for this team, it's a big one.

I’m not so sure about that. Typically you’d think a jury wouldn’t award (an already wealthy) man $126,000 unless they felt that the accusations were bullsh!t.

I do think there should be some better options if the time comes though.

Alright this was just posted by a guy that has been correct with several of the Flames moves. He has been right about the Gulutzan firing, Peters hire, Neal signing, Brouwer buyout just to name a few.

According to him the flames have been kicking tires on goalies around the league and he is hearing that Saros is our main target but the price is too high at the moment.

If he’s correct as he has been in the past this would be a perfect move to cap off this summer as far as I’m concerned.

I live at altitude and a couple km from the Ecuador. I burn crossing the street.

But the sun has nothing on the hellfire the Flames will be bringing.
