ftfy because

Thought: With Montreal in a rebuild/not rebuild no man's land, do you think Shea Weber could be offered up in the Seattle expansion draft?

- jmatchett383

I suppose he could be. Montreal is just in a weird situation. They should be in rebuild mode, but they have Price locked up on a big money deal pretty much forever and the same with Weber. If I were running that franchise, I'd be shopping both players this season and going all out on acquiring picks and rebuilding but I expect that the Habs will end up doing what Vancouver did the last few years which is to try and compete while still rebuilding and I don't think it's going to go well for them.

Yeah, it was between Ghost and Dahlin for that last spot, but Dahlin's being 6+ years younger won him the spot.

The Price contract is a lesson in the value of goaltenders wrt to the salary cap. Dude's the best goalie in the world (when healthy) but there's no way he should be getting that much.

No matter what Montreal does, the Subban trade will keep getting worse and worse.

Yes. And the recapture penalty is horrendous. Although, if he's in LTIR, he's still getting a paycheck, so I don't see him retiring early.

Yup, I don't think Bergevin is going to have that job for too much longer.

That is likely how it'll end up. Why retire, when you can get paid right through the end of the contract by just being on LTIR?

Jones is only 23, he's the one I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on.
- BiggE

He's a stud for sure but it's a bird-in-the-hand thing for me. Imho can't go wrong with Provorov.

JVR for Schenn

Schenn was a 3rd pair Dman and we gave up a top 6 LW for him. At least in the Weber deal, Montreal got a legit top pair guy back who will at least, if he can stay healthy, be a top 4 guy and legit pp weapon for them for many more years. Plus, Nashville is still on the hook for the recapture penalties if he retires early.

I'd rank Provorov higher than Ghost
- Scoob

I would also. In terms of talk about Provorov being a future Norris trophy winner, it shows you what gets the attention of the national pundits. Points and offensive flair does

Yup, Hedman's age was the only reason I didn't name him, but I'd have to think on that one a bit. He brings a size and reach element to the game that Provorov will never have and all in all, he's still pretty young. Hedman probably has at least 5 or 6 peak years left and perhaps even a few more. I think he'd be the one other guy that I'd consider trading Provorov straight up for.

Jones, IMO, is a no brainer. He's only 23, is a rh shot, is 6'4, and is dynamic in all zones. As much as I love Provorov, I'd take Jones over him without question.

- BiggE

I love Provorov but no question on Jones.

That draft I thought for sure Tampa was taking Jones. Him and Hedman would have been to building blocks on the back end at great ages.

Apparently Ghost is the most over rated player on the Flyers. Al bet someone will have something to say about this list.

This will all be moot when we move Ghost to his natural position, 3rd line left wing.

Ryan Ellis gets an 8x6.25 extension from the Predators.

Kind of throws a wrench into Provorov's plan, wouldn't it?

Not really. Provorov is a franchise building defender. He will get paid. I feel like Ellis is more a complimentary type defender like Gostisbehere. Great to have but not someone you would technically build around.

I don't think Jones is that much better than Provorov. Not at their respective ages at least. I think Jones is slightly better at working into the offense and slightly better at defense in small, tight spaces. Obviously he has a size advantage too and is RH.

Not sure it is worth the cost. I think he is ranked higher for a lot of people just on name value.
