Personally I think he has the skills and can be a top 5 defenseman. I just don't think he was one last season. He gets a bad rap for "bad defense" but people forget he's played alongside the "great" stalwarts that were Eaton and Orpik until 2015 or 2016.

Weber hasn’t had a top 10 worthy season in 5 years. He’s still good but probably a stretch to even count him in the top 20 at this stage of his career.

Hedman, EK, Josi, Subban, Giordano, Doug H, Jones, Doughty, Burns, Reilly , McAvoy, Suter, Pietrangelo, Letang, Carlson, Fowler, OEL, Klingberg, And Keith have all been better over the last 3-5 years.
He’s not a swift enough skater for today’s NHL to be amongst the elite. He’s still a legit top pair D but not nearly as capable of dominating as he was 5 years ago.

When he's on his game he's the only defenseman that even comes close to putting up points like EK65. Plus, he's a bit stronger in the D zone. I guess we'll see if he can come back to form after the neck issue.
