This is always such a weird argument because what do you base the best player on?

If we are looking at a pure individual ability? Then McDavid is probably the better player right now, but by a slim margin.

I wouldn’t throw personal accomplishment in there because McDavid hasn’t been around long enough.

I'd have to believe it is. I mean, any person with any amount of sense knows that doing meth is a horrible life choice that never ends well. So the only logical conclusion that I am led to is that someone forcibly made his start doing meth.

I didn't make the list, but to me, Kopitar is the most forgettable really good player in hockey. He's really good, but nothing particular about his game makes your jaw drop. He's just a really, REALLY good player. at all of the fundamentals of hockey.

None of this is a slight to him, simply that he's a player who is very easy to forget about because there isn't some aspect of his game that people can really key in on, and he doesn't have the same amount of highlight reels plays like a McDavid/Ovechkin type.

This is a really tough list because it's sort of flawed. They're combining who is really the best as of RIGHT NOW, but also using the past. I probably wouldn't have even had MacKinnon on that list at all, but RIGHT NOW MacKinnon is playing better hockey than Kopitar(by a slim margin).

Kopitar has clearly been the better player over the course of their respective careers, but that's not right now. I mean look, I could rework that list a hundred times. I'm a fan of Kopitar, so it's not attempting to be a slight.

I don't know. There's an argument now for Backstrom if we're going that route. Now that he has cup and you look back at the great regular seasons the Caps have had, he looks like a more consistent winner.

Agreed. There's nothing flashy about his game, so like you said no highlight reels really but, as a coach, he's exactly the kind of player you use video of as examples all the time.

I get it. I didn't think it was a slight, just more interesting. Everyone has their own criteria for how they value players, so when a list come out if the criteria behind it isn't explicitly stated there's going to be a lot of disagreement.
