Trading Tkachuk for EK is a truly awful idea. Anyone thinking otherwise is being a moron. The impossible cap situation aside, our top 4 is set and we have seriously good prospects waiting to make the jump.

Crowding our blueline even further, ruining our cap situation for the next five years, and trading a fan favourite player to do so? Fck off.

I agree that trading Tkachuk for EK is a bad call but to say the top 4 is set is wishful thinking. We thought it was set last season too and the Flames got rid of their 2nd best defenseman. Brodie needs to have a big return to form and Hamonic may be what he was last season.

I have no concerns about BT's ability to navigate himself around the salary cap. If Pittburgh can somehow fit Letang, Crosby, Malkin and Kessel under the cap--then we can find a way to make room for Erik Karlsson if we had to.

A trade with B.Ryan included could look something like:

Stone- 3.5 mil
Frolik- 4.3 mil
Brodie-4.6 mil
Valimaki (*would really try to avoid including him)
Pick/Prospect (wouldn't give the 1st if Valimaki was in the deal)
=~12.5

B. Ryan--6.50 (I could see BT getting Ottawa to retain to keep Johnny as the highest paid forward)
EK65--6.5 mill (11 mil extension)
=13 mil

Next season = 17.5 mil cap hit--that could get difficult next year with Bennett & Tkachuk due, but not impossible.

Look at the lineup we could ice though:

Johnny Money Neal
Tkachuk Backlund Lindholm
Bennett Janko B.Ryan
??? Ryan Czarnik

Karlsson Hanifin
Gio Hamonic
Kulak Rass

You really think a trade is going to happen when 5 of the 5 NHL players involved have no trade clauses? What possible reason could you give Brodie, Frolik, and Stone to want to play in Ottawa?

well technically they are all limited NTC's as they submit a 8-15 team no trade list
but how is Ottawa not on that list (maybe not on Stone's list)

Brodie is from Ontario, family much closer.
Frolik gets to play in the less physical Eastern conference. Also technically Ottawa is closer to Europe so he is closer to home.
Stone gets to become BFF with his bro and fulfill his Grandpa's dying wish of the 2 Stone boys playing on the same team.

Well, Froliks looking like he’s going to be demoted to the 4th line pretty soon. I imagine he’d like another contract so he could probably be convinced to waive and play atop 6 role in Ottawa.

Brodie’s from Ontario-that’s usually an attractive option. His contract will be up & Ottawa should be able to pay him.

You bring up B.Ryan and EK’s ntc- I highly doubt they block any moves-especially with how long this has dragged on.

Stone? Similar situation to Frolik—bet he’d be willing to waive to play with his brother.

It’s (frank)ing august. In the comments section of a hockey site. Designed for sole purpose of discussing rumours. Can you at least attempt to add something to the conversation instead of getting hung up on small details on a trade that is unlikely to ever happen?

The question was what if Ottawa were to target Tkachuk, which really isn’t out of the realm of possibility of you stop and look at things from Ottawa’s perspective.

You get one player to choose for you playoff run. EK or Tkachuk.

I love Tkachuk as much as anybody, but I'm taking Karlsson. His gamebreaking ability is matched by maybe 2 or 3 players in the league. Karlsson was arguably the best player in the world (including Crosby & Mcdavid) 2 years ago during that playoff run.

I just think people are undervaluing what Karlsson would bring to the table.

But...since people can't seem to discuss anything even slightly outside of the box without breaking into tears...do you guys wanna talk about who's going to play 1RW for the 244,214th time?

Not disagreeing here, but in all honesty, you have to factor in the likelihood/affordability of an extension the likes of which have been rumoured for Karlsson as well.

True—7x11 is most likely what it takes.

It would be tight, but not impossible to keep EK and extend Bennett/Tkachuk. We could very well be looking at trading away Hamonic next season if Rass & co are ready for prime time next year—plus I suspect the cap will be going up again.

To be clear—I’m not advocating for this trade—I’m just bored

Cyril Sneer was my first Avi on my account that got permabaned.

I was drunk trolling the nucks thread and wrote something that was so good I could not stop laughing.

When I woke up the next day I could not remember what it was.

Oh, nice - didn't know. To me the Raccoons (with Duck Tales) was the best TV-cartoon ever! The Flames btw. where the second team i played in my buddies-circle NHL9x-hockey-league (can you guess the first one? ) back somewhere mid 90ies... and the love is still burning!

Tkachuk is likely going to be a comparable player to Gabe Landeskogg, which is awesome, but what GM would hat an eye trading Landy for Karlsson if that was the ask?
Oh I’m sure many of you think Tkachuk will be so much more than that and you laugh at the comparison , but you all laughed at the Bennett/Darcy Tucker comparison, thinking he was more like Doug Gilmour when in reality he’s more like Scotty Upshall.
