I'm just happy that we don't have guys like Danny Syvret, Petr Straka, and Stefan Legein as some of our top prospects. FWIW, I seriously was really high on Joonas Lehtivuori.

Eric Wellwood. Skated into our hearts, which was ultimately torn in two along with his Achilles tendon

fwiw I think the recent draft was light in CHL talent so as a result it seems like it was intentional. Flyers definitely ended up NCAA/USA heavy, but I don't think it was necessarily by design
- YuenglingJagr

If you look at all of Hextall's drafts he tends to take Europeans/USHL/College prospects in later rounds (post 2nd round) and I've always thought that was both intentional and smart.

If you were the Flyers GM at the 2015 draft and both Provorov and Barzal were available to you at #7, who would you pick?
- jmatchett383

Right now, Provy.

I love Barzal, but Provorov no question about it.

I think it's a less scouted area that the Flyers put effort into. Trusting that they will find guys with maybe minor issues or perhaps some that flew under the radar vs trying to get lucky and pick people out of a league that gets a lot of exposure here in NA.

They will definitely be better at deflecting shots in front of the net and PP2. But does JVR play defense? And who will be the 3C that makes Simmonds and Lindblom click? And how is the 4th line not a dumpster fire?

So I guess if we play G and Coots and Provy 30 minutes a night, it will be fine.

i'm confused as to who they lost that makes them worse. you're saying because maybe laughton plays 3c and we lost filppula that the team is worse?

Provorov.

i feel its easier to acquire the things Barzal brings vs what Provy brings.

I know, I was just asking YG because of his healthy/unhealthy obsession with Barzal.

So basically, you're asking if I think Barzal is better than Lehtera straight-up?

On the new edition of "Real Deal Hockey with Bundy and Bill", Chris Therien and I joined by broadcaster and longtime NHL player Keith Jones.

Subjects covered on the 30-min show include Jonesy's take on the Flyers' roster heading into camp, where the team stands relative to the rest of the Metro Division, whether Toronto's addition of John Tavares will enable them to surpass Tampa and Boston in the Atlantic, whether the Vegas Golden Knights can continue the magic of their inaugural season, Jonesy's sleeper teams and potential Calder Trophy candidates among many topics!

Or, a view from reality:
"One of the NHL's most enigmatic teams can't seem to decide on a direction. The Flyers have alternated between trips to the playoffs and golf course each of the last five Aprils, and their roster this year is the poster child for mediocrity once again." -Sporting news

3rd place and a first round exit - The hockey writers

The Flyers have not addressed any of their needs, and on paper are arguably (as non-Philly hockey writers have pointed out) not as talented as they were last season. Yes they have prospects and if all of them play over their head like veterans, if the players are used by the coaching staff to maximum effect and some of their defensemen learn to defend, they are a 3rd place/wild card team. They could even be a second round team, if everything clicks. But failing a couple of short term deals, they are a couple of years away from being a contender IF Hart/Lyons are the real deal. Its hard to see how they will have six non-liability blue liners in 20-21 based on who they have in the pipe now.

You seem to heavily rely on what's written about the Flyers in hockey periodicals as if the opinions offered are factual!
The Flyers last year were a strong defensive team. They added a 35 goal scorer in Van Riemsdyke. There is tons of room for internal growth of the young players. I agree the Flyers are a couple of years away but they have the potential to be a solid team now and to make some noise.

I think it is harder to find top end defenders then forwards. Barzal is great but i think as Provorov continues to get better he'll have even more of an impact on games.

Look up the draft status of #1 centers versus #1 d-men, and you'll find it's the opposite.
