It's Stanley Bowman.....so that sounds about right. 8yrs x $7mil with FULL No Trade Clause...and I'm not being facetious I'm guessing that's what he gets.
- EnzoD

And that is when you have to ask yourself - BEFORE YOU SIGN THE GUY - who else might be out there for equal or less money that can bring equal or greater impact.

That is also a question better answered NEXT YEAR when there are more players available than now.

Like maybe....Mark Stone??

Is that what we're calling 30+ goal scorers now - role players? 30+ goal scorers who also happen to be top end playmakers? Mercy!
- EbonyRaptor

I guess so, his role is to score goals, and he did that more than any other player on the team last season! Which is crazy when you actually think about that a bit.

Very true. Hey I'm not saying Boquist looked bad, but Quinn Hughes was an absolute beast on the ice with 3 highlight reel primary assists. The OT winning apple was unbelievable.....one pick away from getting him.....
- EnzoD

I am........ He got walked 3 times, wandered around his zone, took a long shift that ended with his team hemmed for 1 minute plus, his coach kept the "elite edgework skater" on the bench until 2:30ish into the 3 on 3 five minute OT, showed zero danger in the Ozone.

Kid has a long way to go and as much as I want this to work the concerns going into the draft get magnified with each up in class he takes. We, Hawk fans, have zero, none, no choice but to lean on the projections of scouting staff that is solid cuz he's showing zip.

I hated the pick on Draft Day, and this is a huge year for Boquist playing in London. He needs to hit the gym and learn to play North American hockey. I wouldnt expect him to even compete for a NHL roster spot until 2020, much less make the team. But I agree, there was absolutley nothing about the play from 3 in yellow that yelled "high end prospect/top 10 draft pick". It was one game against a very good USA squad, so time will tell.

Keep in mind that Q.Hughes (Oct-99) is a year older than Boqvist (Aug-00). The difference between a 17 year old and an 18 year old can be a lot in terms of physical maturity.
- EbonyRaptor

And Jack Hughes is tearing it up as a 2019 draft eligible 17 yr old............... I understand your context but positioning and effort have little to nothing to do with 6 months in age difference.

There is no doubt that Hughes can skate with the best of them and back those edges up with good hands which makes for a dynamic offensive player. I just wished he used those same skills in the d zone where they count. When I saw him a few times at UM, he was just that, a rover...very non-chalant in the D zone. Hence, that's the only question...can he play in the D zone against the literally big boys?
- D2D

Agreed and the higher up you go the less and less you can get away with roving but Hughes' effort has never been questioned. ..... Curious your thoughts, assuming you've seen both Hughes and Bovquist, on the Swedes non-chalantness in his zone?

Genuinely curious as to why people were so negative about trying to trade for Hughes’ rights when I suggested it, then?

Is it because you think Vancouver would never do it?

- pdx2ord

I wasn't a part of that and really don't remember, pdx. My target was Wahlstrom personally but understand taking a Dman just not sure the Swede was the guy.

They're all prospects until they're not but Hughes at 160lbs showed very well vs men in the WC while Bovquist was mutilated vs men in Sweden. ....... Time will tell but we all need to hope like hell the scouting staff was correct and now Hunter and then Colliton can get the Swede Edgework phenom coached up.

Maybe we'll see a Hughes (plus) for Boqvist (plus) trade in the near future, similar to the Berard/Redden deal back in the day.

Beaudin will have a better NHL career than Boqvist... Stan needs to part ways with this potential train wreck ASAP.

Hawks, Bowman in particular, are pretty impressed with Luke Johnson. Read quote somewhere from Bowman that Johnson could surprise some and play for the big club at some point.
- Marlowe

Bowman did say watch for Johnson when the callups start. He was one of my picks to show well at prospect camp. An honest 2 way, D first centerman with good size, 2 full yrs of USHL, 3 full yrs at ND, 2 full yrs at Rockford. ......... He deserves a look.

I would have to agree with the possible return of Brouwer BUT only these conditions and many of these have been mentioned I believe:

On the "cheap" one year deal and NO NTC; possible rental down the road
Does not impede Baby Hawks development and progress
Both of the stated above HAS to occur, not one or the other

Brouwer provides:

Winning experience and attitude
Grit, girth, and sandpaper to stick up for teammates line Kaner, Tazer, Schmaltzy
Possible ability to slide up and down line up, likely bottom 6
Proven PK guy
Net front presence, possibility on PP
Defensive draws, at least ties up guy where support comes in

Bottomline, it has to be a win-win and no lose proposition!

- D2D

Don't forget Q 's #'s 1,2,3,4,5 qualifications, predictability. That's why I'm sure the Hawks are talking about it. Just wonder if his skills are redundant with Kunitz in the bottom 6?

I do agree with you he does bring skills, with loads of experience, the Hawks are short of.

And a rookie that was used all over the lineup to boot. Dcat has "so far" proven everyone wrong even his supporters.

There are valid reasons for bringing a player like Troy back, if that's what the Hawks do. There has been constructive discussion about pros and cons of bringing him in.

If you don't want to read about it or have been somehow upset by someone else's opinion on a player, maybe it's in your best interest not to come to an open message board. Quit being a Richard.

Ugh TT Time....

ADB is at best a role player on a line with size and grit where the other two maintain possession.

Monumentally stupid to overpay the role players when you have no true "core" players to replace the geriatrics.

- Return of the Roar

Have to respectfully disagree with you as you do not pound in 28 goals by accident in your rookie season. Plus he was rarely on the PP, especially with Kaner. He possess a tricky shot, kind of like an in-betweener his his release, tougher for a goalie to read, as least for now. Now could last year could have been his point...I don't think so! It is very hard to finish in this league and he has those qualities.

Have seen Hughes a couple of times and he can flat out make opposing defenders look silly whether he is mostly stationary with hands or on the move with his skates especially in the O zone but like I have stated, his ability to handle is own end remains to be seen. At UM, he mostly relied on his skating and hands (stick) to do his d work but not in a traditional sense, one hand on stick, eyes glued to the middle sternum and hips, follow attacking players stick, etc. It's kind of hard to explain but if you watched him you would understand. All this is because is SO gifted skating!

I have NOT seen Bovquist live nor on any extended tape! Sorry!

If comparing the two, I believe they are very similar offensively with Hughes carrying the puck while Bovquist moving the puck when it needs to but it will all come down to who can play in their own d zone.

Bang on! That predictability is probably the first 10 traits Q looks for probably why he isn't fond of rookies. Good call on your end!
