As Jimbo said earlier, there are a lot of interesting players that could hit the UFA market next year. I wonder how many of them will actually get there, rather than being re-signed by their current club. - Pete V
Have to believe Seguin is re-signed. Can't imagine he hits the market. |

It'll be interesting, that's for sure. Unfortunately, it sounds like Seguin is already having talks about re-signing in Dallas. He'd definitely be my top target. No state sales tax there either. |

So, if Seguin and Karlsson both hit the open market next summer (which I don't think either will), would you pick Seguin if you only had a choice of one. I think I would actually pick Karlsson. I think second is elite, but I think Karlsson is a generational player and arguably fits a bigger need.
Edit: Although Seguin is almost two years younger. He would be in his prime for a larger percentage of the contract term. It would be a tough call for me. |

Right now, I take Seguin. After this season who knows. I would like to see how the defense and the offense play out here under a new coach. |

Yeah, it's kind of a tough question right now because you have Andersson, Chytil and Howden who all have potential. But, what you don't know yet is if any of them has elite number 1 potential. They definitely have center depth to be sure, however.
Right side of the defense is still a big question mark for me.

2nd buyout window opens tomorrow, wonder if they'll be some new UFAs when it's all said and done |

Pionk is going to be interesting. If he can have a really good year it doesn't look as bad. Shatty will put up points and be average on the defensive side. If Smith could come back and just worry about being good in his own zone I think that side will be solid. All what ifs though |

I wonder if Bouwmeester is a thought for St Louis to buy out
they are in cap trouble, his current cap hit is 5.4 mil, but his buyout cap hit is only 1.8 mil this year and next. |

Yeah, there is definitely a lot of "ifs" on the right side right now. Worst case scenario is that you get trainwreck Brendan Smith again, Shatty declines an his offensive game is not good enough to makeup for defensive deficiencies, and Pionk turns out to be just be a guy.
Best case scenario is what you mentioned.
Hell, there are even question marks on the left side.

Yup. Staal & Shatty's contracts end at the same time. Hopefully Miller & Lundkvist are ready to step up at that time.

If not before that time. I am really beginning to think that Miller is going to be a stud, and I like Lundkvist a ton as well. Says a lot about Lundkvist that the Rangers took him over some of the players that fell to that spot.

Tom, if we all lived our personal lives like you count on the Rangers landing Jack Hughes, we would all be counting on winning on scratch off lottery tickets to pay our bills.

I definitely wanted Lundkvist, but yeah the more I read about Miller I think he can be a top pairing guy if he puts it all together. Skates like the wind, built like a linebacker, loves to be physical and has offense.
