If his last name were McGiblet instead of Tkachuk, he doesn't go 4OA imo

‘06 Forwards
Hecht-Briere-Pominville
(Zubrus)-Drury-Kotalik
Vanek-Roy-Afinogenov
-Connolly missed the regular season, i don’t remember where he played in the playoffs
Did he take a spot on the Drury line & bump someone down?
-we also had: Mair, Stafford, Gaustad, Paille & MacArthur

Defense:
Tallinder-Lydman
Campbell-Teppo
Spacek-Kalinin
Paetsch
Sekera

Who that we have now, slots in where on that team?
Does Eichel take Briere’s spot & push him to LW?
Sam at RW on Drury’s line?
I don’t think any of our other forwards now make it into the top9

Briere-EICHEL-Pominville
Hecht-Drury-REINHART
Vanek-Roy-Afinogenov
*you could argue Mittelstadt over Hecht, but he was a pretty good 2 way player who scored 19-37-56pts that year
Mitts > Hecht in talent obviously
But Hecht might get the nod still bc that line that went up against other teams top lines nightly
As far as talent goes, do we have to find a spot somewhere for Connolly?

4th line
Kotalik-BERGLUND-Stafford
*unless we want to make it another scoring line, then enter Mitts & maybe Okposo

Defense
Tallinder-Lydman
DAHLIN-RISTOLAINEN
Campbell-Teppo
SCANDELLA (over Spacek?)

Goalies
Miller
HUTTON (i guess)

So that’s 7/21 guys from this team would make the ‘06 roster
8 if u need to have Mittelstadt in there somewhere just bc of his talent,
but i think I’d just replace Berglund with Mitts... so it would still be 7/21

- jdfitz77

It depends on what era we are talking about here

If they are playing under today's rules

Mittelstadt over one of the most overrated players in Sabres history...Afinogenov

If they are playing under the 2006 rules I keep Max but Casey over Kotalik and I move the lines around a bit

2006 rules:

Briere Eichel Mittelstadt
Vanek Drury Reinhart
Hecht Roy Afinogenov
Sheary Berglund Stafford

Lydman Tallinder
Dahlin Risto
Soupy Teppo

Miller
Hutton

2018 rules

Briere Eichel Mittelstadt
Hecht Drury Reinhart
Vanek Roy Pomminville
Sheary Berglund Kotalik

defense and goaltenders stay the same

Pommville gets the nod in 2018 with Afinogenov out

I think I'm taking Okposo over Stafford for a 3rd/4th line role

In 2006 Stafford was good in the corners and a young kid that was feisty (Neil fight)

I think he gets the edge for me

But Okposo wouldn't be a bad pick up assuming he returns to form.

This could be discussed for days

I’m going to strongly disagree with you but I respect your opinion
- gerbe75pts

I don’t think I’d have taken Brady in the top10
I’m not convinced he will be a goal scorer

Dahlin
Svechnikov
Zadina
Wahlstrom
Dobson
Boqvist/Hughes/Bouchard in some order

I’d start considering him at pick 9

I can't take anything that's Sabres-associated seriously until I see no more horribly contrasted and damp looking uniforms and a bunch of undisciplined idiots, but a well-dressed and entertaining game and an atmosphere that doesn't drag with paper fans and drunk morons who don't know how to root for a team whether it's losing or not.

That was young Stafford though
He was a pretty good skater & played tough

I thought he had a chance to be Captain at some point
Man did he end up disappointing

Certainly arguable

How many players from this team would even make the ‘06 team?

Eichel, Sam, Okposo (maybe?), Mittelstadt (maybe? Might get sent back to college or AHL)

Ristolainen & Dahlin on defense is probably it (Tallinder-Lydman & Campbell-Teppo, plus they had Spacek too)

Might even keep Biron as the backup goalie over Hutton, but that’s certainly arguable

That ‘06 team had FOUR guys score 30+ goals, with Vanek topping 40
MAYBE we get ONE 30 goal scorer this year

And they had Stafford scoring 13goals in half a season, Max scoring over a ppg, Hecht & Kotalik scores in the high teens if i remember right, and I’m pretty sure Roy had over 20goals & 60ish points

That team was freaking stacked

- jdfitz77

I would say Reinhart would be the. big maybe..no way he would make it over Mittelstadt

Yeah, Ek's headline is from the first day of class in clickbait 101. Is Tkachuk even a slam dunk to be ready for NHL? Many I've heard wonder if he should've even went top10. Maybe he feels he needs one more year. If he doesn't sign next season, now there's a story. It is a little surprising to hear he wants to wait a year, but does anyone think he would stay in school two more additional yrs to avoid Ottawa? (He would have to play his senior season first before being able to use loophole ala Vesey, correct?)

Maybe Ek is setting up tomorrow's roomer about Karlsson AND Tkachuk to Tampa or Vegas or.....to Colorado to try and get their first round pick back, lol.

Some people just look at His stats and put in their mind that he’s bad

I believe Casey had five or six more points in College and I believe Blake wheeler had the same stats his freshman year

It’s a little shocking that you said that ..

You’re getting a cop contender team to a team That could be someday

- gerbe75pts

not sure what a cop contender is, but dahlin and Eichel are the keys as to why I wouldn't

Nice to see the positive vibes about the Rochester D right out of the gate. My only concern is how much playing (and development time) are Borgen, Pilut and Hickey going to get with all those AHL vet D ahead of them?
- SabreWest

Borgen seems as if he's on a longer development curve...pilut and hickey will get their ice time...those vets mentioned are solid AHL'ers, but can be replaced...especially by more mobile and talented players

He'd become a free agent August 15, 2021, end of his senior season. But yeah, this is a huge non-story. If the team and his adviser don't think he's ready yet, and he agrees, so be it. Ek is the personification false advertising.

You know, its when people don't really know the phrase they're about to use so in an eyebulb popping last stich effort to sound smart they say something that isn't quite right, but is phonetically close. It really gets my gander up.

Some people use to call them "Rickyisms."
